Can't believe what I've just read in the Manchester News

People have been spotted lighting fires
Tony Crook, area manager for Lancashire Fire Service, said: “A United Utilities helicopter which was dropping off water at Healey Nab found people lighting fires in the vicinity in the area where the fire was already burning.”

“They alerted us here, we called the officers in the police helicopter nearby and they apprehended somebody. In a separate incident, fire crews near Scout Moor Road had to stamp out a fire which they saw people lighting, in an unmolested part of vegetation.

“It’s absolutely heartbreaking. All these people are deployed for the safety of people, never mind the damage to the environment It causes.”

What is wrong with people, this is a terrible tragedy for people and wildlife, emergency services stretch to the limit and some idiots
want to make it worse
 
I hope these stupid folk are charged - AND found guilty and given a suitable sentence .

That is just plain ridiculous
 
Totally agree, mindless idiots putting a bigger strain on already overworked firefighters.

That's not Saddleworth Ingrid, it's next to Anglezarke Reservoir, East of Chorley, Lancs.
 
Apparently there have also been some dopey prats going there to sightsee and needing to be rescued
No doubt to get a selfie or pick up a souvenir, similar to the loons who go to the seafront as waves crash over the wall.

Absolute scum should be locked up for a long time, I would drag them over there and make them beat the flames in full fire kit also
 
Lots of fires all starting at roughly the same time around north wales to ,i don’t think you have to look much further than Facebook ,Twitter ,what’s app etc to figure out that the morons are doing it for the selfie fame .
 
Put a Sniper in the helicopter.
I guarantee they won't reoffend.

They were interviewing a Canadian fire fighter, (now living in the UK) and fighting mostly forest fires, with the help of planes.
Apparently it wasn't uncommon for kids to re-start a fire because they missed all the action while they were at school!
WTF?!

Also it seems if the turn around time for the "Water bombs" was greater than 4 minutes, the effectiveness was greatly diminished
as the heat of the day, and fire evaporated the previous drop.
 
It seems that in the present selfie/Facebook/Twitter culture, there are far too many nasty minded individuals who will do anything for kicks. There are parts of the UK where gangs of youths make bogus 999 calls and lure paramedics, police and fire services to a location, then pelt them with rocks, stones or large fireworks.
 
Should be 0 tolerance on emergency service staff abuse.
Can you imagine in the USA, paramedics turning up and being pelted with rocks? The police would be there instantly and there’d be a few dead bodies for the paramedics to shift.

5 year min sentence for anyone caught abusing emergency workers.
10 year minimum for those pricks starting fires with min 5 years hard labour.

This country is a joke.

That isn't anything new, maybe a more regular occurrence, but kids were setting bins alight so they could pelt the crews when they turned up.

Read about it yesterday - this is Winter Hill fire behind us - rather than Saddleworth Moor - they've already arrested someone for in relation to the original Winter Hill fire and it was one of the helicopters helping out regarding this fire, that saw people actually lighting more !!!

I think they should have dropped the huge bucket of water they have been airlifting to use to try to douse the fire directly on them !!!

I lived up there in my youth, going on regular walks to Belmont, Rivington and Winter Hill. I used to think that folks were more caring and friendly up North, but it seems as though you have exactly the same lowlife as we do down South.
I hope they get this sorted out soon, and the guilty parties are caught.
