Sad event in the family today

I got a call from my mum who is 72 to tell me she had got a call from her niece down in Weymouth.
To tell her that her sister had died. They had not spoke for quite some years due to a small family upset a lot of years ago.
Over the last two years it was looking like via a few letters and cards this minor issue might have been sorted and laid to bed.

now that time has passed and my mum is a little upset and I pretty much don't have much to offer her.

i'm really sad for her today.

Truly sad but happens in many families.

My brother and I have not spoken to each other since June 1986 over an argument between our respective wives, both of whom we divorced in 1991!

I did try to sort it but to no avail.

One day a tragedy occurs and it's all to late to fix.

Sorry to hear this.
You don't need to offer her much, to be honest, really just an ear to bend if she needs.
The best thing you can offer her is your time.

Had a long chat with here last night she is going to go to the funeral even though it is a long way. She is hoping maybe some chat with her sisters two daughters might help her understand what the issue really stemmed from. Her sister never really said much about what had caused the rift and was a virtual recluse.
