Sad day in my photography world.

Unbelievable. Real shame about the other guy.

Take it easy, all the best.

ye gods that really puts all our little moans into perspective ,,thank the gods your still alive and from now on live for the moment .

Best wishes and a quick recovery mate.

Thank all of you for your warm wishes on my recovery and the sympathy given to the man that life was taken. Although I did not know the man and that was our first and last conversation I did reach out to his family and have been in contact with them. They are pulling through this tragic event together as a family and were so warm and supportive of me and my recovery. Thank you once again for all of your support.

Life can be so cruel !! Glad your'e on the mend and sincere condolences to the guy and his family
who tragically lost his life

I wish you a speedy recovery and time does heel most pains sooner the better for you if possible.

I was glad that you have reached out to the family of the deceased gentleman it will help them in their grief.

Perhaps a little early but I hope you can regain your enjoyment of photography again it can be very therapeutic

Best wishes

Allan

As has been said, deepest sympathies go out to the family of the nice guy who lost his life and really hope you have a speedy recovery.

Nice you've been in touch with his family, hope you manage to go forward ...

As has been said, unlucky to be part of that situation, but lucky to have survived it. Hopefully you quickly make a full recovery from your injuries and suffer no permanent damage.

Sympathy to Mr Flajole's family. Hopefully for his family in Galveston they will have had happy memories of his visit prior to the accident.

Get well soon.

What a truly awful thing to have happened! Amazing that you survived it at all & condolences to the family of Raphael Flajole.

I wish you a full & speedy recovery Shayne.

Jeez. Get well soon Shayne.

One quick question though - you have a junior member tag, yet the news reports list you as age 48?

You could at least share the photos of the fountain of youth :D

There's quite a few members with an incorrect junior tag, it comes from a database update where any members who's DOB was not confirmed or correctly entered in their profile automatically defaulted to junior status..I'm sure there was a thread about in in forum discussion, if affected members may need to contact the staff to update it if they cannot do it in their profile, if a member has never indicated a DOB they should still just be able to enter it I believe

That's the kind of story makes you realise just how unpredictable life can be. Sorry to hear about the guy who didn't make it. But you did, and I'm sure you very much appreciate that. Gear is replaceable, a life is not. Maybe when you hold an exhibition some time you can dedicate it to him? :)

Sorry to hear your sad story. It is really shocking - especially as you do not realise where this story is going when you start reading it. I thought that it was going to end up with you dropping camera /knocking the camera over or something similar.

I cannot make up my mind whether to feel that you are very lucky to survive and make it on the road to recovery, or incredibly unlucky to be involved in such an unlikely accident in the first place.

Good luck with the recovery.

I'm lucky to be here...

Blimey I wondered where this was going at the start... thought you were going to say he nicked your camera but my god. Glad you made it to other side and on the mend.

So sad for the guy to lose his life in such a tragic accident.

As everyone else cameras and equipment can be replaced.

Here's to a speedy recovery.

Exactly what I thought. I thought it was a robbery story. My Thoughts are with you and Raphael's family. All the best.

What a terrible story :(
It just goes to show when your numbers up, its up!
And I'm sure you have analysed the whole scenario a million times in your head.

Get well soon

I'm not sure why that is like that. The forum made that change and I requested that it be changed but nothing was done.
I don't remember ever seeing that "Request"
PM me your preferred birth date and I'll change it

Blimey, glad you ok and RIP the chap that passed away.

Very much hope that you will make a full recovery. God bless you!

I'm only echoing the sentiments expressed by others but I'd just like to wish all the best to both your and the other mans families and hope that you make a full recovery.

Thoughts to all families affected. Hope you get back to shooting images soon

Just read about this terrible incident, I truly hope you have a swift and complete recovery :)

Hi Shayne - what can I say that hasn't already been said but, to repeat, my very best wishes to you & your family after this horrific incident.

I hope you can get back to your usual physical & emotional self very soon.

What a terrible , gut wrenching story, pleased you managed to come out alive, and I hope you make a full recovery, I had a horrendous fall from a tree a couple of years ago, I chronicled the sorry saga in this forum.

I had a very nasty fracture of my pelvis, so spent 10 days in hospital, weeks in a wheelchair, zimmer frame, crutches etc, it was a long and painful recovery, and it may sound a bit glib and naff, but photography was my lifeline at times, just to be able to get along to my local riverbank, in a wheelchair or crutches, and to shoot nothing special , it helped me feel alive once more, tremendous therapy.

Here's an X-ray of my hip, showing the various hardware used to put me back together again, 2 years down the line, I'm doing almost everything I managed before the accident, although trying to fasten my right shoe-lace is a right pain.

Get well soon, and get out shooting as soon as you can.

Just watched the news reports online after googling it, dam you are lucky to be alive, I hope your recovery goes well, very sad about the other man also.

Best wishes, Rikki.

Wow. What can I say? Get well soon!

And... Just goes to show how random life can be. Carpet diem, because there might not be another opportunity.

My word, what a heart-wrencing story. I am glad to hear you are on your way to recovery and wish all the luck in the world, get well soon. my condolences are with the other man's family
