s95 or lx5 ??

I go on holiday thurs so have tomorrow only to order a camera.
I was going to take my d300 but it would be a mission lugging it all about so im thinking about a decent compact to take with me travelling.

Would i be better off with a s95 which is small and fits in a pocket, or would the lx5 be a better camera?

I would want to use it when im out and about in general at home and also car shows etc as well as my holidays.
I know the s95 fits in a pocket but is the lx5 really much bigger?
I normally wear combats or have a rucksack anyways or is there maybe a decent racksack type case fore the lx5?

I know there is a £100 difference in price but is there much of a difference in quality etc?

Very little between the two. The S95 is more pocketable but the LX5 has a wider angle zoom (24mm). The added advantage for me is that the LX5's controls and menus are very similar to those of the GF1.

Bought my LX5 for very similar reasons to you. Wanted a good quality pocketable camera to take on holiday this year. Very happy with it. Take a look at my Flickr pics for some examples.

I spent quite a while looking at both, but eventually went for the LX5. The size doesn't make a difference to me really (the LX5 is still small enough to fit in any pocket that the S95 would), and thought it'd be nice to be able to use filters on the LX5 (not very often, but sometimes stick a polariser on the front - you can get an adaptor for it). I seem to remember focusing being a bit quicker on the LX5 too, which is a big thing for me (I hate slow compact cameras), though could be thinking of a different pair of cameras so don't quote me on that one.

Both are cracking cameras, I owned the S95, loved it, took amazing pictures and really regret selling it. You should go try both cameras out and handle them for a bit, see which one you prefer.

I went to the shop and tried them. S95 won it for me.
Was just that bit more practical for travelling with.
Have ordered mine online with next day delivery so fingers crossed it should arrive in the morning!

I'm sure you won't be disappointed. The S95 is a lovely camera - there's so little to chose between the S95 and LX5 - either will provide you the opportunity to take excellent photographs. Enjoy your purchase and don't look back.
