weekly RyanB's 52 for 2025 Week 34 Insects

Good you haven't had to shell out on any expensive equipment for this shot. Nice white balance too..

Many thanks all, I will pass your complements on to the Diva possibly in the form a cat treat. :)

Thanks Tim, I did explain in the OP. Its a Super Takumar 85mm f1.9 with the ruined aperture blades removed, the first image is using a multi pointed star shaped aperture I cut out of black card and the second is a more traditional shape that would be normal for an 8 bladed aperture although also cut out of black card.

The reason I did it this way is this is what the blades looked like when I opened the lens up to see if I could repair it.

I can normally clean these vintages lenses up pretty well but this was beyond my and probably anyone's ability to repair. The corrosion had actually eaten completely through the thin blades and the aperture actuation arm was completely seized as well. I couldn't think of any other solution really. I might try some other style apertures in future as it is really easy to open and change out the card.
Wow !!!
(And sorry for not reading the full story initially - but that photo really does tell a story)

The yolks on Dave, I can see that you were scrambling for a shot and finally laid the best one that your could...

There are some terrible yolks in response to this shot.
Nicely done.
Thanks guys, for the comments ( for the puns, the jury's still out...) ;)
Wow, thats great
Cheers Alan and thanks for resisting the urge to crack another joke.:D

Fab shot Ryan :)

A shadow puzzle. Nice :)

Your texture shot is lovely, really well done and your shadow shot is exactly what I was looking for (except that it was so overcast and rainy when I went downtown that there were virtually no shadows )...

Really great shot - the depth of the scene and all the different shadows and tones of light and shade. Made even better by the people in the distance

Great shadows and light, what is/was the building used for- low wall on left is unusual

That is lovely!

Cracking texture shot!
Many thanks all!!

It's the corridor connecting the main of Ely cathedral to the Lady Chapel which is at a slight elevation so I guess the wall is to stop people falling off what is essentially a ramp into the bathroom doors you can see on the lhs. Not positive but I'm thinking this was a much later addition to the cathedral or possibly once a covered walkway, the bathrooms are definitely not nearly as old as either the Lady chapel or main cathedral going on architectural styling. .

Week 15 Snappers choice

Mixed bag of stuff from this week, started off doing some paper abstracts but then noticed it was about time to get the macro lens out.

A paper abstract using printer paper and a couple off camera flashes and gels.

And some of the life in the garden

A Osmia Mason bee in flight which was a first for me and one of my most difficult to capture shots, took ages to get one just right.

Same bee chilling in its hotel room

All nice shots but the chosen shot is beeeeeeautiful

Lovely set Ryan. Think you chose the best shot and probably the hardest to get but the second and third run it pretty close.

It's another wet plant box ticked - and nicely done :)

Great Snapper's shots Ryan, I would have been torn between your chosen one and the chillin' bee hotel...

Really like your after the rain shot.

Different, which is good.

Looks like Dragon Skin.

I really like the PP on this. Wouldn't work on everything, but certainly does here.
That works and nice pp idea.
Many thanks all!!:)

Week 17 Stairs

This is a bit of an older shot but one I don't think I have ever shared on here, it just came to mind when I saw the theme as it fits perfectly. It was in Amateur Photographer magazine last year when they did a piece on our local CC and the only time I have ever had a picture published so one I am kinda proud of. Bit of a cliché in the world of Cockney Rhyming but it might go over the heads of any non-Brits as I had never heard of it before moving here (still confused by some of it 20+ years later):).

Same stairs from a quick setup yesterday

And some garden stairs.

Your chosen shot is very good - I wondered if anyone might do that (aside from me that is, I was thinking of it).

Your garden stairs is very good too.

Fantastic set Ryan. They are all awesome. The figure playing the trumpet in the last image just makes it pop.
