Does anybody know if the Elinchrom Style RX600 can be powered by the Elinchrom classic 1500 power pack or any other Elinchrom pack with the rectangular EL socket as the main output? It seems to be a fairly logical thing to do but I'm struggling to find any options for converting the EL output to a kettle type plug.

You can't do this, the RX 600 is a monobloc it's meant to be used independently of anything else.

Even if you could wire it up correctly the pack isn't going to provide continuous power to the head, I can't see a reason you'd want to do this as the RX 600 gains nothing by doing so even if it was possible.

Thanks for the confirmation. The reason for doing this would be to be able to use the RX600 outside the studio rather than buy another system. An normal inverter seems to be the way forward but I think I'll just stick to speedlights for convenience despite the lack of modifiers I have for them. I was under the impression that studio and outdoor lights operated the same way and the power pack was universal. I have now seen the error of my ways!!

You can use the Elinchrom Style 600 outdoors, powered by a battery pack (check compatibility first). The Elinchrom 1500 Classic is not a battery pack - it's to power separate studio heads (as opposed to monoblocs), from the mains.

Godox does a good battery power pack http://www.theflashcentre.com/godox...inverter.html?category_id=655&filter=&fl3=128 and another brand is Innovatronix. But they're expensive and not an ideal solution either, so given that custom designed battery-powered location flash has come down in price dramatically in recent years (eg Godox, Lencarta) most people go for that.

Speedlites will struggle for power when used outdoors in daylight.
