Been going through all the cameras this afternoon and after the talk of Jupiter 8 and M39 thread cameras I thought I'd put up a couple of pictures of Jupiter 8 mounted in M39 and Bayonet contax style.

These are a LoMo Leningrad and a Kiev type 4
The leningrad as far as I can make out works very well until you come to get the film developed as there are no gaps between the frames then everything is in one long picture. Typical LoMo hey?

The Kiev. I love the way you focus with this fantastic camera, it has a focusing wheel on the top of the camera to adjust everything, it works ever so smoothly.

Both are Jupiter 8 50/2.0 lenses but in different mounting systems.

Love the Kiev Richard, I've got one as well and the superior baselength and th scroll wheel are excellent - if only contax had continued making their rangefinders they may well have beaten leica in the end, shame really
 
I've also got a Zorki 4K with the Jupiter 8 lens, and I just realised that the lens on the LoMo in the pictures is the one off the Zorki, as I have the Lomos on my Voigtlander Bessa R at the moment!
 
Whats really strange is I have loads of Contax lens boxes in this collection but not a single Contax or the lenses!

I think my Dad traded the Contax in for something else, Possibly either one of the Leicas or the Nikon F5, I do seem to remember him having a Contax quite recently.

I'm always thinking to get an old contax sonnar 5cm 1.5 and modified in M mount:naughty:
 
Had a Kiev many years ago and took the skin off my fingers focusing and winding on but the results were just pin sharp and really resolved colours well,the following is one taken with it

yes will work with the focusing coipling, all you need is to find a dead kiev or contax RF and take part of the body out of the camera. Some people do this in Hong Kong.:lol:

The sonnar 50/1.5 is simply one of the best lens around.
I just got my Contax IIa CLAed; so hopefully it'll see some action this summer.

Although my brains rather frazzled after sitting doing a major listing session on Ebay tonight whilst its a free listing day.

I'm getting down this collection of cameras, I was saying to madam pepper earlier on that I've only got about 50 left to sell!
 
In the 70s I used to assist a pro who had a special Nikon mount made for a Jupiter 80mm lens because it was such a cracking portrait lens.

I always got the impression Ruskie rangefinders were slightly better made than their SLR equivalents, were they from a different factory?

I think they were better because they were straight copies of the german cameras and lens - especially the Contax range. They dismantled and took the contax factory and drawings away after the war.

The SLRs had to be designed, at least partly, by them.

Interestingly, after the contax engineers came back from Russia to East germany, Zeiss gave them a project to build a RF camera from the scratch, just to keep them busy. They produced the Werra; a superb little camera. ( Arthur has one for sale....:D)

Philip : Thats a lovely camera.....I wish I could afford one of those Ikons. Isn't that a M mount camera?

Ujjwal: yes, this is a zeiss Ikon and it is a M mount camera. however it is oem by cosina and it is a Japanese made camera.
btw, it's not mine as I prefer a Leica instead.
