Hi.

The school I work for have asked me to redesign their website. This will be followed by the responsibility to keep the website up to date, provide content etc.

I have looked into the workload, but need to go to them with an appropriate figure for this.

Those of you who work in this field, how much should I be asking for on a monthly basis?

I don't want to price myself way out of the market, but I do not wish to undersell myself for this task.

Any help anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers as always

Depends on various things.

How good is your code? How many pages are there going to be in the new site. Will you provide any statistics for them?

for hosting I charge between 3 GBP a month and 11 GBP to reflect the amount of space and support that I provide, for some sites I throw in minor changes as well because I know that the changes will be few and far between. Having said that someone has just had a complete rehash of their site to the Joomla CMS in their minor changes, but that's in my interest because it's so easy to update.
I normally reckon on about 20 GBP an hour and quotes for small sites using Joomla with a commercial template and say 8 to 10 pages around 300 to 400 pounds.
With schools and similar things you are competing against amateurs who want to do the job to gain experience or parents etc etc, few people recognise the skills needed for successful web design - ie graphic design, html, css, and now javascript.
