I hate to start rumours but there is alot of talk of a new Nikon DSLR full frame camera, smaller body than the D3 and a new Nikon flashgun ( SB900 )

Maybe they are both getting tested out at the Euro 2008 ;)

Paul

You mean one to challenge the 5D ?

Makes perfect sense for both business and user level.

Maybe.....

are you testing it?

There are a lot of links kicking about
I post Rockwells link, not because I think its true but because he has the concept organised as opposed to links to leaks on dodgy Chinese blogs, and forums that just don't know anything.

You'd have to wonder why Nikon would revert back to the easily-lost terminal caps from the D200 rather than using the newer version from the D300 :suspect:

Good point. Looks like a photoshopped D200. But full frame compact does make sense.

This one appears real; nikon says no comment until closer to the release date http://asia.cnet.com/crave/2008/06/19/nikon-s-mid-range-full-frame-dslr/

No surprise anyhow.

How do you figure that? It's the same picture

Can't really see Nikon reverting to the old-style caps or doctoring a pic of a D200 when they could quite as easily use a D300 pic. These images are supposed to have come (secondhand, naturally :naughty:) from someone who works in a printers that does the brochures for Nikon.

It would be interesting to compare the blurb in D700 brochure with that in the D300 one. Methinks it might be quite similar......

I'm sure Nikon start most of this mis-information themselves.

Partly to whip a good amount of pre-orders, get all the geeks drooling over the specs and maybe get some last minute feedback from forums as to what's right and wrong with the feature set. After all, Nikon would be stoooooopid if they didn't read what the plebs say about their cameras on the forums and such like and then use it to tailor/snag-out their products

and partly to put Canon off the scent/make them sweat about their 5D replacement. ;)

Does this mean the D300 will take a price drop ?

I would imagine that it will keep coming down in price like it has since release until it levels out around £850 (just a guess based on the D200 price before the D300).

I can't see a big drop in price when the D700 comes out as it's in a different market.

balls - missed this earlier and made a whole new thread - D'oh

The copy is really poorly written, which is what made me think it was fake personally.

(I don't doubt that a small bodied full frame camera is on the way, I just don't think this is real.)

Sorry ive seen the d3 images and to claim the d300 is as good with sharpness and such like is complete barmyness.

Ken you do talk out your full frame sensor sometimes lol

I wouldnt waste my time with this and will be waiting to afford a d3 or even a d3x when they hit the deck

The D300 is a completely different camera to the 5D.
Its like comparing a Ferrari to a Ford Focus.

Sure, the Ferrari can go really effin fast, but theres no way you're going to fit your kids, the shopping AND the dog in it!

And as far as the D700 goes, it doesn't make sense at all to call it the D700.
Should Perhaps go for the DX in my opinion.

D3X, that's as much pie in the sky as a D700.
saying that though, at least D3X follows some kind of numbering pattern.
D700.............hmmm:suspect:

ninjah'd

Still waiting to hear what the D80 replacement will be.

I think they will bring out a smaller FF, and also a couple more FX lenses (70-200 replacement for one)

DX as in Nikon cropped sensor DX? :naughty:

No idea where D700 came from either, but then there doesn't seem to be the same structure to Nikon names as there is with Canon

They do seem to be running out of good ideas at Nikon.....

Single figures for Pro, Double for Consumer, treble for Prosumer. Add a prosumer FX in the mix and where do they go?

And then the D60 become the D70.. oh wait, that doesn't work. The D80, nope got one of those already as well. D90? Well that would be the replacemement of the D80 wouldn't it. D30? So that would be D50>D40>D40x>D60>D30 Well that's logical isn't it.

They should just make it;

Pro fullframe: FX1D, FX2D, FX3D etc etc
Pro cropframe: DX1D, DX2D, DX3D etc etc
Prosumer fullframe: FX10D, FX20D, FX30D etc etc
Prosumer cropframe: DX10D, DX20D, DX30D etc etc
Consumer: DX100D, DX200D, DX300D etc etc

Or something similar.

Pro fullframe: FX1D, FX2D, FX3D etc etc

Prosumer fullframe: FX10D, FX20D, FX30D etc etc
Prosumer cropframe: DX10D, DX20D, DX30D etc etc
Consumer: DX100D, DX200D, DX300D etc etc

Well that makes it nice and simple;)

They're sort of a little too far down their track now to rename all their models. They'll just have to keep muddling through :lol::lol:

Personally I havent found Nikons body naming difficult at all up to now [lenses are another matter entirely], probably because Nikon is what I use - Canon's naming scheme is all Greek to me! However, if this rumour is true, it is an odd one as its a market they so far haven't tapped and doesn't fit into any of their current numbers. So, why not the D3000 for these prosumer full frame beasties, in stead of an inbetween number that they might want to make use of for the cropped prosumers at some point further down the line? Or even simpler, D300FX, to distinguish it from the normal D300?

Logically, it should be

d3, pro
d30 prosumer fx
d300 prosumer
d3000 consumer

but it's too late and too like canon now for Nikon....

Whatever the rumours are I just feel my bank balance will get a hammering!!!

If you've got all of that inside your 5D then you really need to invest in a sensor cleaning kit :naughty:

well, as long as they don't start coming out with all that Rebel XTi turbo crap, I don't care what they call them.
Incidentally, the new EOS 1000D is branded The Kiss Digital F in Japan and the US I understand, and the Rebel XTi turbo diesel, (350D to me and you) was branded Kiss Digital X.
With that in mind, D700 will do just fine k'thanks

It's named the Rebel XS in the US.

Still a crappy name though.

The Digital Kiss? Kiss Digital? Come on Canon, what the bleedin hell are you playing at? Think about the dreadful choice of top end stuff and sort it out!
