Im shooting a local rugby team for their centenary photo and would welcome some tips on how to best arrange the players(and committee men).
I intend using my Canon 24-105 probably on a tripod.
Please can you suggest the best focus mode and exposure for my 7d?
All tips very much appreciated.

Two lines of people maybe three if there are a lot of hangers on...players central in the lines with coaches and others at either end of the lines have the front line on one knee try for all on the same knee either left or right rather than a mix

Make sure they're facing the camera, aperture f/8 should be more than enough, one shot focus they're not in action and exposure who knows  depends on the light

I always try to get three rows, squares it all up better, otherwise there can be alot of wasted space at the top and bottom.

First Row - 7 players. Kneeling Skipper in the middle, three on his left on their right knee, three on his right on their left knee. Skipper on both holding ball.

Middle Row - Aprx 8 players Standing. Arms behind back.

Back Row - Aprx 6 players Standing on benches (the kind you used to get at school). Arms behind back.

"Smile!"

As Seba has suggested, but rather than have the front row kneeling, make an effort and get them seated on some decent chairs.
