I know there are a few Rugby League fans here so let's hear from you.

Being from London, RL was never my sport until I met my wife who's from St. Helens and, when I first went up to meet her mum & dad, the first thing her dad did was to take me to a game. That was 25 years ago and I was hooked.

The new Superleague season starts next weekend and we're off to The Stoop to see London Broncos v Saints on Saturday. Father in law and sister in law coming down by train and we'll be picking them up from the station and heading down there and meeting cousins at the ground as well. A good family day out which is one of the things I love about the sport.

So, who's your team and how do you think they'll do?

I'm a massive Union fan I'm afraid Marc. Never could get into League in the same way.

London Irish all the way for me

am a Cas fan, was a season ticket holder for several seasons, but other things got in the way, may try to get to a few this season

Not a big rugby follower but the only games I enjoy watching are union. League just doesn't match it IMO.

Pah, typical! 3 replies and 2 of them are from people who prefer the girl's version. ;)

Never mind, I'll persevere.

They've announced the schedule for the Magic Weekend which is at the Etihad this year. Great value for money to watch all 7 Superleague games from only £45.

But the contests for possession through rucks, mauls and scrummages are the interesting parts of rugby (and the most manly :P). Take those out and it's just not as entertaining to watch. :D

Is that the bit of the game where they all pile on top of eachother and have a good cuddle until the ref awards a penalty because they're getting too amorous? :D

As opposed to RL where they get hit by a tank, then just get up, play the ball and carry on playing the game (Much more manly). :p

Hit by a tank or knocked off balance 3 times before they're forced to give possession to their opponents? Much better to see several men from each side try and overpower their opponent to win/maintain possession. :D

Haha I'm typing this as I watch the football and with rugby on the brain just glanced at the tv and wondered why they were kicking the ball :cuckoo:

I always want to shout "Forward pass!"

I'm someone who enjoys both codes.

I've watched union for years and although I went to my first league game in about 1971 at Odsal to see Bradford Northern v, I think, Wakefield Trinity, it is only fairly recently I have taken an interest in league.

Come on guys, don't get into, one code is better than the other. They are both great games.

Dave

Im a big warrington fan and cant wait fotr the season to start, I think we will have a good chance to go all the way to the grand final this year.;)

To be fair, they should have done last year. Crazy season with 3rd v 5th in the final and 5th winning it. All adds to the excitement though.

Blasphemy! Stone him before he says Jehovah...

...erm...

...I mean...

Doh!

Well you can **** right off then! :D

I agree with your remark to the Rhinos fan Marc.
I will be travelling to Langtree Park on 10th Feb. to see Saints first league game on their new ground against Salford.
I have some photos of Langtree Park and Knowsley Rd. on my Flickr in St.Helens Rugby League Club set. I am Cycling Saint on Flickr.

Hoping to get to Langtree Park later in the season. Will have a look at your Flickr for those photos.

Nah then, don`t be bitter fellas........:)

Whitehaven fan here! Salford would be my sl team of choice if I had to pick one?

Hard not to be afer 4 times in 6 years.

Warrington were the best side I saw all last season,we were lucky to get to the final, but we gave you a hiding once there.

Can't argue with that. Both Saints & Rhinos had slow starts to the season but finished strongly. Once again we failed to turn up at Old Trafford though.

Final was a good game, thought we were gone 16-8 down at half time, but Burrows was inspirational. A phrase often over used, but that day, he was.

The best I've ever seen him play. He has incredible strength for a player his size and that, combined with his speed and agility, makes him one hell of a package.

How long until he retires? :D

When Barry McDermott says he can................:D

Seriously for a second, who do you reckon will win it this year?

wasn't league designed to be a easy code for simpletons who couldn't manage union ;) ;) .Just saying

Seriously? Do I have to? Oh ok.

Warrington are in with a shout if they can go the distance this time. The Leeds stars are ageing so not convinced they can do it again (sorry). Wigan (spit) are also a possibility. Saints have signed a few new players for this season and I like what I hear from Simmons so we are a bit of an unknown at the moment. Mind you, I didn't expect us to get anywhere near Old Trafford last year.

Oh, and did you mean Brian? :p

Never understood the rivalry between the codes. I like and watch both, prefer league but that does not make it a better game, just different.

I'm a Warrington season ticket holder, looking forward to this season, got a good chance me thinks.

The rivalry stems from 100 years of persecution of rl by ru....there's plenty of literature out there that will explain it properly, and far better than I can! Examples include banning players from ru clubhouses for playing rl, expunging players records for 'turning pro', banning rl from being played in the armed forces, seizing rl grounds and assetts in France under the Vichy regime but no compensation ever paid etc etc Be rest assured, this is the tip of the iceberg!

Let it go, it is now 2012 for gods sake................:)

Ill be covering all 7 games at the Magic Weekend, its a major slog but worth it

As for the RO/RL divide, what can i say, RU has only recently over the last 10 or so years become a game which is barely watchable and thats only down to the influx of RL players and more importantly RL coaches and RL coaching systems.

I was sat covring Leeds Carnegie v Sale 2 years ago and me and the tog next to me went 28 minutes without hitting the shutter button, sums the game up for me, a right borefest.

You said you didn't understand the rivalry, so I've tried to explain it for you! Personally, I don't mind union (though I dislike the rfu) and will watch the internationals, but I prefer rugby league!

Pie Eater :D, bro is a Saints fan, cue much chortling at 5 consecutive Grand finals of choking!

Much prefer Rugby League to Union.

Seen London Bronchos a few times in the past when they played at The Valley.

I saw them at The Valley a few years ago and it was alright but only 1 stand was open so it was a bit strange looking at 3 empty ones. Mind you, Griffin Park was a right s***hole of a ground! :gag:

Glad they're back to being the Broncos, the Harlequins RL name never did sit right although I'm glad they're staying at the stoop.
