Been asked to source several backpacks for work.

Most kits will be carrying an ungripped 30D/40D/60D, a 17-40mm, flashgun, 100mm macro and in some cases, another lens (a telephoto zoom like a 70-300mm). Batteries and memory cards obviously take up little space, although each person will also need to carry pens, dictaphone plus notepad. A tripod holder would be nice but not essential and a laptop sleeve isn't a must either.

They need to be hard-wearing, good in the wet (although i realise true waterproofing will cost lots) plus they HAVE to be a backpack.

Anyone seen any good deals and can recommend a bag? Obviously, I need to keep the costs down, as we'll be buying between six and 10 bags, so maybe £50 each or thereabouts.

Thanks in advance :)

Pat

I have a Lowepro 450 aw that has a tripod holder and laptop holder. It fits all my gear in (1d mk2,30d, 300 f4, 17-40,70-200, 11-18, flashgun, 50, plus loads more room for extenders, filters etc) for some reason on amazon they are like 130 quid but i only paid £45 so maybe hunt around see if anyone is doing some cheap, or look at the 300 aw slightly smaller but will fit your needs and a good brand too and they are £59.99, they also have a cover that pulls over the whole bag making it waterproof (link - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=317828027&pf_rd_i=468294)

I have a GEM backpack that I paid about £30 for on Amazon a couple of years ago. It is a full camera backpack, so probably too big for your needs? I carry 2 bodies with lenses (28-75 f2.8, 28-90), 3 further lenses (70-200 f2.8, 10-22, 50 f1.8), both 1.4x and 2x TC's and a couple of flash guns. It comes with a separate waterproof cover which isn't attached to the bag, which may or may not be an issue to you.

In terms of build quality, the materials are identical to my old Lowepro Orion Trekker and to a friends Lowepro Mini Trekker. The only difference is that some of the cinch (sp?) straps are not sewn back on themselves to stop them pulling through the fasteners; to stop this, I have just doubled them back through which stops any slipping. On the plus side, this makes them easily removable to help reduce weight when travelling by plane with strict hand luggage allowances!

I am sure they used to sell a smaller version, but I am not having much joy trying to find it on Amazon.

Try doing a search for "Amazonbasics camera bag".

Not had one myself or checked one out close up but seem ok when I've seen of people with them.

Tamrac bags are very good value. I can't remember what mine is, but it holds my D90 with the 18-105 fitted plus my Tamron 70-300 with space left for another small lens, plus space in the top for a flashgun, notpads etc, and a pocket on the front for batteries and cards.

Mine is similar to this although I paid a lot less for it.

There's also this.

I have the Amazon basics backpack and whilst it's awesome value for money and a good size, it's not been the most hardwearing at all. Plus it's not got a raincover meaning you'd need to get one separately. Not that they are expensive.

I'd probably suggest the Lowepro runner 200AW which should hold what you want as well has have an integrated rain cover and a tripod mount. Currently on sale at Amazon for £50 a pop.

Cheers for all the advice guys.

I ended up suggesting the LP runner 200AW, as it was £50. Seems a nice little bag and has a rain cover, so should be okay for those wet day. :)

just to jump into the thread, ive seen hikers backbacks with a curved rear so it essentially holds the back panel of the backpack away from your body a little, encourageing some airflow. Seemed like a great idea to me since i end up sweating like a pig on long walks with a heavy bag. Are there any camera packs with a similar design?

Have a look at f-stop - they do a lot of mountaineering/skiing packs - and Lowepro have some fancy looking top end ones that might have a design like this. It'll be top dollar stuff but you get what you pay for :)
