Yes
Anyone used one of those rubber eye-cups?

Do they cut out stray light from your eye and make the viewfinder pic look more contrasty... or not worth it?

Yes they do that too as I remember...

or not worth it? Well, seeing as I haven't used them for over 20 years, what does that tell you about how I feel about them???:D

I tried one a month or so ago and could not get on with it, it cut into my eye socket and was annoying after a while

Thanks animal... i think i will give it a miss then.

I used one back in my 35 mm film days and thought it helped.
If I come across one for my current camera I'll buy it.

Used to be able to get them purely circular or sculptured to fit around your eye. The latter type was best at keeping out light.

I wear glasses and I tried out one of these a while ago to see if it would help me see through the viewfinder without having to push my specs to the top of my head.

Failed miserably - just made my glasses dirty and pressed them into my face.

i use one in conjunction with the eyepiece magnifier on the D2X, I shoot in really bright conditions and would have a hard time without it.
