Well at least read the flippin' thing properly. I've been experimenting with off camera flash with my newly purchased light stands, umbrellas and Nissin Di466 flashes.
I've been carefully setting the Nissins to slave mode 2 to cope with the digital pre flash but despite trying the on camera 580ex in standard and master mode I've been struggling to see any difference in the pictures. As I seemed to be having no joy I decide that perhaps my only option was to set everything in manual and shoot in full manual. Not having a light meter I printed out the GN table for the 590ex and whilst checking for the GN table in the Nissin instructions I noticed that for the flashes to ignore the digital pre-flash they need to be in slave mode 1. :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:
I still fancy trying full manual but at least I've found out why things weren't working as they should be.
