RPS distinctions - my journey - first stop - the 'LRPS' - GOT IT :)

I looked at the LRPS a couple of years back but I went for the CPAGB instead. what it meant to me was I did not have to join the RPS to use my creditation, all I had to do was get 10 images that were judged on the day by 6 judges and i had to get over 200 points.

It took me a year to prepare but for me was a better route than the RPS

Seriously Dave... just submit.. stop messing around.... You'd have to be really terrible to not get LRPS. You're obviously beyond the standard they require for LRPS.

Thanks for the vote of confidence :)

But there's a plan to starting off with the L which has business applications, so no I don't want to just jump to the A (though I already have plans on what to shoot for that too)

Nice one bud

Whatever the qualification is I strongly believe the route to getting there improves your photography - so they are all worth going for, though not repeatedly to the same level as 5 'L's in various societies would be a bid odd

I think you are right it has made me better and made me think about what i am taking so good luck to you too

Quick update :)

I had a fun day out in Leeds last Sunday and shot 32 distinct images for my LRPS panel - I'm happy to say that the hardest bit was afterwards in choosing only 10 images as a panel !!! I'd much rather have put in 20 or more lol

Anyway, I've PP'd them all now and sorted the Hanging Plan too - so I'd better get some prints done to confirm they are ok and then mounts too

I doubt there's any more to report now until after the Assessment Day in March, but I may squeeze a post or two in anyway

Oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR :)

Dave

Quick update...

Today I was awarded my LRPS at an Assessment Day next to the new Photography Show

If anyone's interested I'll start a new post with the images and how I went about it - and of course I did it somewhat differently to most :D

Cheers

Dave

Congratulations, and yes a detail thread would be welcome :)

Well done mate.

Congratulations Dave, and I also am interested in seeing your panel, please.

But what are they rewarding?.. the photography, or having the time, and financial ability to travel to exotic locations regularly.

Good studio work requires as much skill as location work.. often more so, as you have to create everything, including the lighting, yourself, and you often have to do it on demand.

Travel enough and you can easily just get lucky and happen across the right shot at the right time, with the right light. Which makes a better photographer? :)

I feel we should understand the importance of personal preference towards the style of photography. A studio photographer achieves mastery of light in the studio whereas a 'traveling' photographer masters the art of capturing moments. I personally wouldn't say who is better in their photographic skill. What I would say is there would be better mastery of the technique that you frequently use and refine. That said, both deserve credibility in their own right!
