Royal watchers stunned officers seize their cameras

How many times have we heard the expression "The worlds gone mad"
It seems to be mainly this country and this is just another example.
The Royal family should be trying to hold on to what little respect they have left, I am sure that when the Queen dies, her successor will have major problems of creditability with his track record in recent years.

I won't read the Daily Mail piece, I make a point of not paying attention to "news"papers.
Old Betty said before Chrimbo that she wanted the family to be left alone over the festive season and press intrusion would not be tolerated. This is likely a typical plod over-reaction to some instruction along the lines of "move press photographers along" or similar.

I am a staunch royalist and I don't think this is as a result of the Queens recent comments but once again the Filth going over the top on photographers, the Queens comments were purely to do with Paperazzi not the general public and FFS the Christmas Day arrival at church was on the TV so its not exactly private

the royals are a major waste of space and tax payers money.
let em finance themselves like european royals have to.

.

I disagree, the royals are a huge national asset that bring in huge revenues for our economy in the form of tourism.

Would you swap your life for one of them? ... could you handle it?

I disagree too, but more because the Royals do technically pay for themselves. All the assets handed over to the country in return for a yearly "salary" is one of the things just about every anti-royalist either conveniently forgets or indeed knows nothing about.

In this case though, yes - the world's gorn mad y'know, we now get the constabulary enforcing the BBC's monopoly. Stupid, just plain stupid.

What was it the Sex Pistols said.... "God save the queen, the fascist regime"

Oh yes, and the same regime upon which your current freedoms were built - but that's not really the point here, since it is doubtful that the order for this ridiculous action came from the Royals at all - the point is we are all now guilty until proven otherwise in a world where the police can do this sort of thing.

Actually you couldn't be more wrong... our "current freedoms" (make of that what you will) are actually formed from the process of limiting the monarchy's power... go check your history books.

What, like the freedom our dictator freedom fighter Olly Cromwell bestowed upon us?
He was worse than the monarchy of the time.

Same old story: power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I did say "process" not mentioning any particular incident... but anyway, the restriction of power started with Magna Carta (which I am sure most can see as probably the most significant document upon which British "power" is built) and went forward from there.

So, I rest my case, the Monarchy is not about freedom. Freedom from the Monarchy is where our freedom comes from.

Another fine example of the police having to do something very unpopular and wrong because of politics. What have been and interesting conversation if I'd been there "so I can't take photos of the royal family, OK I'll take photos of you officer taking cameras of there poor people" :)

sadly I read the article. I don't think the policed had to do anything - they acted all on their own and even admitted to being out of line afterwards

Do you really think that? Do you really think that the tourists we have in London would not come if the monarchy were not here?

Must be quiet in London when queenie's not in town!!

They wouldn't have taken my camera because I simply wouldn't have bothered to get it out for that lot. They only finance themselves with the ridiculous amount of money we pay them as tax payers. Tourists would come here just the same if there was no monarchy.

If we had a king that lead our forces in battle I might respect them more.

Just my opinion of course :)

Yes I would and I would go straight out with her gold card and get myself some top of the range Nikon Kit, Then go on holiday in the warm and wave to the suckers with the PAS's on the route to the airport!

If people didn't hold such prejudice against newspapers in general, or the Mail in particular, and had actually read the article, then they would know that the Police have admitted this action was a mistake. The seizing of cameras from the public in this case was down to a poor decision of a single officer.

Some good may actually come of this. The officers involved will certainly now be briefed on the rules concerning the public and cameras. And the publicity this generates may increase the understanding of the rules :rules: amongst a wider Police audience. Unless, of course, they simply look at a single picture and don't read the text ;)

I didn't read the article I just skimmed but what I would say is that officers have no right to take camera equipment from a member of the public. However if this was on a private estate of the queen then they could be asked to leave if they refused to stop taking pictures.

Not going to get into whether or not the queens residences are considered public or private land

As an added extra I fail to see how the queen could take a photographer to court - she may be on the money but the laws of this land apply just as much to her as anyone else.

..

If people would READ THE ******* ARTICLE then they wouldn't make comments that have no relevance to the article.

Do members of the public have the right to take photographs of people (Royal or not) on private land such as Sandringham?

/rhetorical

The royal family had nothing to do with this incident if you read the whole thing ...just the police overreacting...who knows why, bored maybe...

Yea terrible, she’s such a party animal I can tell you!

Yeah sure I do, not in the way you think of it though, more of a general cherry on top of type of national asset, people don't come to see the queen, they come to taste and imagine the history, its all part of the tourist industry and its one of the reasons London WAS the biggest destination for tourists last year. (well one of those pointless statistics but you get the idea)

Also as far as I can tell they work pretty hard in the humanitarian department...etc etc.

Yes I would and I would go straight out with her gold card and get myself some top of the range Nikon Kit, Then go on holiday in the warm and wave to the suckers with the PAS's on the route to the airport!

:D

Yeah ...you wish that’s how its was, in reality, had you been born into such a world you'd have more likely been rased with the weight of responsibility, your teenage years been splattered and crushed and eventually bowed down to the inevitable, but worthy life of public service...yeah so okay you haven't got any money worries (it seems) but then you haven't had much choice either.

I mean can't we compare 'unfair' beginnings to wealthy banker who got rich from taking advantage instead. I don't see them giving much back.

Maybe I’m being naive, but I think I recognise sincerity when I see it, Its seems pointless to pick on them as being a waste of time when clearly we have a whole heap of others (MP's included) doing less and taking more.

If a spleen gets infected then it gets taken out. Enough said :)

Absolutely correct.
If we didn't have that. Could anyone imagine the problems we would have with Phill the Greek. And Andrew who thinks the RAF are his own personal transport.

That's the official line, but then they're hardly going to come out and admit that Liz had asked the photographers have their cameras removed, are they?. Far easier to blame a lowly police officer.....

Yea sure, just can't imagine her telling the police to confiscate everyone’s cameras in case one of the public got a shot of her ...just as hundreds of the public have done previously, seesm a bit ott.

This thread will end with the 6 letter "C" word before too long.
