Hi all

I'm thinking of joining the RPS next year and having a shot at their 1st distinction being the Licentiateship.

I think it would be a great personal goal to work towards, a good way to improve my photography and if anything else a good level to get to so I'm not second guessing myself...

Before I start this project I was wondering if anyone had any tips, advice or past experience? I've pretty much read every word on the RPS website btw;)

Cheers. Jason

Hi Dave. Thanks for that. Ill have a good read today.

First and foremost Im thinking of themes and ideas - I need to be comfortable in the subjects before I submit. Im getting the feeling that if I get this part wrong the pictures would probably not turn out as I wished anyway..... Or, as usual im probably over thinking it! thers some interesting ideas on the RPS website what people have done

The "L" is more about demonstrating technique rather than story telling. The whole panel will need to look balanced (visually) but no theme as such is required.

I was going to say that :D

When you look at mine you'll see a range of apertures, shutter speeds, lens choices and subjects - that fact that you can shoot a range of things well enough is what really matters with the L; and of course making it a coherent panel too as the 11th 'image'

As an aside - I got my mounts from Cotswold Mounts and I used a back-board too

Thanks Dave, I see of late the pannel are preferring off white/cream at present for mounting... I think ill bob down to my next regional meeting where ever that may be... I'll have a look on the RPS site...

Nice story on your website by the way and some cracking images too, some I wouldn't have thought of submitting (I don't mean that in a negative way) I mean thinking outside the box kind of what I would normally shoot - and im finding it really really interesting...Which brings me back to one of the main motivations trying my hand at it....

One thing I spotted on your site...

"There was a man (me) a woman (Sara) and an argument – so nothing knew"

Now I'm no grammar expert but should that be "new"?

I did fail english so feel free to counter correct me... ;)

Cheers

you see "nothing" is a character name in the story , so the full sentence reads "There was a man (me) a woman (Sara) and an argument – so 'nothing' knew that the day would end with us making up in a hotel room"

I would suggest that you go to an advisory day and observe an assessment day too...found it very helpful. I am working on my A now... It really makes me reflect and review critically my own work. Certainly improving my photography; not without its frustrations but there you go... No arguing with the ref!
