What is it with royal mail lately?

3 times in a row now i have paid extra for next day delivery (special)
and each time they come early morning, knock, post a form through the door saying i wasnt in, then drive off quicker than i can run to the door to even answer it... they must have these cards pre filled or something.

Has anyone else found that royal mail are really slacking now when it comes to deliveries?

I was waiting on an urgent delivery that i needed today and now they say i have to wait 24 hours before i have to collect it from the main depot :bang::razz:

I so angry i want to go down there and introduce my camera to the delivery drivers skull.

Unfortunately some posties just want to get their round done asap. I consider myself lucky that my regular postie waits for SD stuff and signs himself for RD stuff and hides it for me.

That said, he does get a crate of beer for his troubles come Christmas time.

Try phoning your local depot to explain the situation and they might contact the driver to make a redelivery. You certainly shouldn't have to wait 24 hours for collection.

They are quick at time's but not often:D you happen to have a fast one, I leave a note on the door saying "slow walking person please wait"..;)

What really annoys me is that i live in an apartment block.
He/she drives in, buzzes the buzzer then drives off... ive seen him do it on my days off.
I complained to my local depot and the lady said she would have a word with the manager but they have 'part time' staff etc and they tend to rush sometimes...

So with this in mind i got it sent to my mums address, different part of town.
at 8am they tried to deliver got no answer and drove off, yet my sister is there packing for spain, my dad was in the front room watching tv and none of the kids heard them either.

Normal i wouldnt be too bothered but i really needed this delivery as i wanted to get some nice shots of my family before they go back to spain... been over a year since i saw them last and kids grow so quickly.

Think im going to go back to using couriers now, iver never had an issue with the likes of dhl etc getting a parcel to me. they buzz and wait every time.
Its not like special delivery is cheap either!

well if your bored and want a laugh take a look at the complaints procedure on the royal mail site... the system makes it so that you cant actually make a complaint about deliveries lol.

I've heard of this happen many times!

They "knock" and then post the card through the letter box saying nobody was in. I reckon they dont even bother knocking/ringing half the time, and just post the card through, saving them a valuable 20 seconds! :(

That's a good idea and I may try it.

It is very frustrating waiting for a delivery and having to wait 24 hours before you can collect it.

I've had trouble like this numerous times in the past. Waited in for something to be delivered and just received the card through the door. The guy tried the same stunt again on re-delivery but I was sitting looking out of the window so I saw the whole thing. He literally drove onto the top of my driveway, came down, rang the bell and briskly walked back to his van. Quick shout from the window stopped him going anywhere though.

I had a period of this happening, so every time I went into the depot to collect I complained. Eventually they took note, and all is fine now :)

Our postie walks down our side of the road (a cul-de-sac) and back up the other, so if I'm a bit slow getting to the door, I can usually catch him on his way back up. Non signed for stuff, he leaves propped against the door on the way down and picks it up if I haven't got it (he rings the bell again to see if I was just asleep). The replacements they use when he's on holiday or on a day off can't read or tell the difference between numbers though - we get post for our number but other roads and/or our road but different numbers. If I catch him, I give the wrong post back to him, otherwise (weather permitting) I drop it through the correct door myself.

Ahh thats a shame, our postie is really good. We had a packet delivered but we were out once, and he put a card through and wrote a note on it to say he'd come back to deliver it when he'd finished his round.

My wife use to work for the local post office, she said that any item's not delivered should be at your local post office by 4pm that same day for collection..

That's a good postman you have there, don't forget to drop him a fiver at xmas..:D

I've caught the postie in the act of pushing the card through the letter box and asked him for the parcel, which he didn't have....

Not sure if it's official policy or not but round here they don't carry parcels on their rounds, just letters, so anything that won't fit through the letter box has to be collected from the depot.

I've a feeling my postie sorts his mail and delivers to my house maybe three times a week. My mail is so sporadic, I'm tempted to send a batch of 5 or 6 letters, one per day and see how well they do with them.

Today I received a card for a failed delivery, not a problem as I wasn't in to sign for it :) But what did nark me was that it said I had to wait for 48 hours before I could collect it from the sorting office :shake:

Happened to me or at least to my daughter last week at about 08.45am

She heard the card come through the letter box and by time she opened the porch door and unlocked the front door he had gone
Didn't even attempt to ring the bell, went and got it after two hours up the sorting office

Depends on your local Post Ofiice, ours is a franchise and therefore won't take them unless the customer rings the sorting office and arranges, otherwise they don't get paid for the service !

My postmen are great, they know I work, so generally come before 8am if it won't go through the letterbox.

Most of the time our posty doesnt bother to get the required signature for items on recorded delivery. :naughty: TV, washing machine, Nikon camera, Ipad all going cheap on Ebay right now..

At least your main depot is probably faily local. I try to avoid delivery by City Link, DHL, etc, as their depots are miles from where I live.

At my last abode I had a NSP*.
I could see the card hit the mat but by the time I opened the door he was gone. Not even a puff of smoke.
Once I ordered an SD card online and the note said it was too big for my letterbox. It was in the smallest jiffy bag I have ever seen, when I picked up from the depot I nearly wet myself laughing, the bloke behind the counter looked puzzled and I pointed out why and he corpsed as well.

What made the day even more annoying was the staff, my box was in the bin there, but due to it not being 'reprocessed' into the system i wouldnt be able to collect it the next day.

I pleaded with them about it being urgent, and then argued, and the women went outside... came back in, then said its not here.

She was adamant that i was wrong, so my dad came in who had the form... he pointed out he was the one that spoke to the postie and that he was assured it was there along with one othjer item the postie tried to deliver further down the road...

Took about 20 mins of him arguing and she went back out there and came out with my box.

All ended happy after all as i managed to get some nice shots of my niece and nephew before they and my sister flew back to spain. :)

What a pain though!

My postman calls with special delivery (before 1pm) at 12.55. This I believe is so he can have a long chat with my hubby about rugby (this is Wales after all). He's a great postman and we really miss him if he's off ill. The replacement postman does get somethings right. He usually matches the numbers but not the roads.:bang:

I was saying this to me wife yesterday. The past week or so:

1. I bought a speedlite from this forum to arrive special delivery on sat. About 8:30 am me wife hears the post being delivered, puts on a dressing gown, and has to sprint down the road after the postie - no knock, no nothing.

2. Bought a flash diffuser on ebay. Note saying 'Too big for letterbox' - went to collect, was in small jiffy bag which I then posted through said letterbox myself.

With my new laptop adapter, the postie left it atop the bin in the bin store by the front door - which was good, but wondered if that was acceptable had it been a high value item.

I have a top postman. We have made arrangements what to do with packages and signed for items when I am not there and he gets a nice thank you in his Christmas Card each year.

He even holds back my mail for me when I am on holiday so the letters do not build up on the mat for a week (you can see it through the studio door).

The only problem I've had was when a 'Saturday Guaranteed' Special Delivery didn't arrive. Postie just ran out of hours for delivery but he was a good postie even if was always complaining about the management.
I believe they have now changed the routes and we get out post really early (about 9.30 ) - it used to be as late as nearly 3pm.
I live in the sticks and often see the van drive by to the end of his route and return about an hour later with the post.
I have known one of the relief posties come in with a special on the way down then come back with the 'normal' post on his way back - go figure!
On the rare occasion I wasn't home to take a delivery Richard must have signed it himself and left a card telling me where he had left it securely.
Beats some of the couriers who can't 'find' our place because our postcode covers a large area (as I said we're in the sticks) or when they do just leave it without a signature.

I had a card left for a parcel that the postman hadn't even bothered to fetch, I know this because he'd written the previous days date on the card, I went straight up to the post office where my parcel was waiting.

Just had the 3rd parcel in the last 12 months go missing with RM!

Havent had too many problems with royal mail (apart from them being uber slow!) but a couple of the couriers round here are lucky i dont own a gun!
the latest was a parcel OH had been waiting for, a card had been put through the door (fair enough we weren't home) but NOTHING had been filled in on the card, no name, no delivery time, no re-delivery details, not even details of how to sort out redeliver or collection! OH had to google them and find their phone number and call them, the card we had delivered said it was from the carmarthen depot, but when the OH rang said depot they said no it was at their swansea depot! so then had to find the number for the swansea depot, sort out time to go and collect. OH mentions all this trouble to the manager at swansea depot and his response "what do you want me to do about it?" :bang: wouldnt even speak to the original guy to ask him to do his job properly from now on

mine signs for it himself....
then leaves it in the toolshed

trouble is he's a nice guy..................
