I've decided its just easier to take your parcel and throw it in the bin

out of the 3 most recent parcels i sent with royal mail:

1) took 1 month to get there
2) completely lost (i.e. stolen by light fingered postal worker)
3) The Playstation 3 i returned to game has gone AWOL.. so now i'm 600 quid down and the postman is probably playing Motorstorm as I write this.

Whats the point in queuing in a long queue in the dirty post office, staring at old over priced cds and dvds and looking up at brand new LCD TVs with adverts and information 'did you know? Istanbul is the only capital city on two continents'.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I sent 99% of my parcels with UPS. From now on i'm even going to send my letters with them even if it is £10!!!

Great isn't it? They lost a parcel I sent about 2 years ago. I'm still waiting for compensation which I know I'll never see :annoyed: Also.. why, oh why do the postmen insist on trying ram things through the letterbox that obviously won't fit?

LOL thats a good point
i live in a block of flats, and all the post boxes are outside, so the postman cant be arsed calling people down, he just rams the stuff in the box.
there are some boxes that arent associated with any flats, they dont have numbers on as they are just there because the there are more boxes than flats. but the postman still rams all the junk mail in those boxes. its flooding out of them even though its obvious no one lives there.

i'm starting to sound like a real old whinger but wasnt the Royal Mail something we used to be proud of?

My daughter sends loads of parcels on a daily basis. Royal mail blotted their copy book many times & many moons ago now she "buys" parcel delivery services off of ebay at a fraction of the price! mostly next day too! Usually its DHL that collects. no problems!

Got to say I've never had a problem with Royal Mail, always had a great service from them. It's the "alternative" companies who can never find our address and I have to make a special trip to collect things which annoy me.

Got to agree, City Link say we don't even exist...:cuckoo:

Royal Mail is the best of a bad bunch IMO..:)

If I'm posting anything of value I use Special Delivery. Nothing I've sent has ever gone missing. A camera lens once got damaged but the post office paid up quickly and without fuss.

I bought something off ebay a few years back that Royal Mail took a fair while to deliver. Could be that for some reason only known to them it went through sorting offices in Hampshire, Sussex and somewhere else before finally getting to me in Essex. Took just under 5 weeks in all. I've had stuff turn up from Australia quicker.

Didn't you insure it?

yup, but the wife threw away the proof of postage :(

i got a proof of postage especially because i knew somoene somewhere in the chain would recognise that the box was the right size for a PS3 and 1/2 inch it.. I guess the post office dont care coz the more people have their stuff nicked the more they can advise we use their more expensive services..

Never had a problem myself - I always use RMSD which has insurance built in (£500 iirc but you can pay extra for more) - sorry you've been chafted btw ... Paul ;)

Unless you live in Inverness

LOL thats a very good point

with regards to special delivery, it is good and reliable but...
the price for 2.01kg item is double the price of 2kg.. i often split my parcels in two and send them seperately as its cheaper.. how stupid is that?
why should be have to send everything special delivery? it seems if we dont then its unlikely to get there. Its like getting on a train, and they say the only way we can guarantee you get there is if you go in 1st class. if you dont then we cant guarantee you wont fall out of the train

I call them "Royal Pain". I have lived and work in the US for a while before heading for the U.K (I still don't know why:thinking:  ) and going to a post office in the US used to be a very pleasant and I will say why.

1. Ample parking Free of course
2. When you buy stamps and if you have a kid or kids with you then the person behind the counter would promptly show some kids interest stamps like football stars (american football). If you are by your own they will still show you a variety of stamps and you can take your own sweet time choosing them without any pressure to buy.
3. If a magazine or letter posted to you is damaged, they will put the item in a plastic bag with all their apologies
4. redirecting your letter from one address to another is absolutely free. They even do it free internationally so all my letters came for a few months to my new address in the U.K without I paying a penny extra
5. Post offices are nice and clean so it's a pleasure do do business with them.
6. Never lost a letter or parcel during my stay
7. Much Much friendlier & plesant & knowledgeable staff

I can go on and on but to conclude this may I add that maybe the above service is provided because the employees if USPS (http://www.usps.com) are the owners!

I once went to slough post office on one of the streets and the person behiind the counter looked at me and conveyed that why I was there in the first place. Because they get commission for every transaction they would never ever inform you about any cheaper options for the same item.

i must say that 99% of the time the people behind the counter are great.. in fact i feel sorry for them because they get all the grief from the p***ed off customers..

i've got post offices on my sat nav.. i think the database is about a year old. but with most of them i drive there and they have been closed down :(

I only use RM and have had very few problems.

A few late deliveries is about as bad as its got for me.
I still have a check they sent for a late RMSD delivery. Souvenir ;)

I, too, have never had a problem with Royal Mail either, only ever use them.

Despite not having anything go missing they do need to come into the 21st Century. I've got two packages en-route which are being held up by the holiday :(

I only have two problems per-se:

1) I (or my wife) never have to sign for a 'Signature Required' delivery. Not good when it's a new lens from Onestop :shake:
2) Those bloody red elastic bands! If I didn't pick them up from the doorstep every day I'd be ankle deep in them. I'm sure they wouldn't have to put up stamp prices quite so often if they didn't waste so many of them.

Number 3 (constantly posting our post next door and v-v) was dealt with by sending them a complaint via e-mail. We now have a new postie that can read house numbers. :woot:

I'm just feeling grumpy because of a head cold that came on over night. No trip to Clumber Park with the camera for me. Bah!
