Does anyone know whats happening about the proposed strike, i have to pay for an item this morning that i need for wednesday, im not sure what to do i dont want it in a backlog of post![]()
When I posted a cheque here in Cheshire to a Manchester address, the lady at the post office told me that Royal Mail would guarantee deliveries of any letter sent by registered or recorded delivery. This was nearly a fortnight ago, so don't know whether this still applies today.
They have never guaranteed delivery on 'Signed For' - which replaced Recorded and Registered some years ago.
so far my posty is still working, is it an area based strike?
I'm really beginning to lose my patience with them, I made a post on here recently about how numerous print packages I have sent out have not been received by customers and since then I've had about another eight or nine enquiries as to why prints have not arrived - two this morning FFS!
Whilst I have some sympathy with their plight their antics are seriously affecting business both and large and small and this series of strikes is seriously denting my margins as I have to get the images re-printed, packaged up and posted again - that's without taking into account the time it takes and the reputational damage.
 to the strikers.
That's the main problem though, there is no other competition that delivers standard mail to home addresses. Competitors like TNT/DHL etc come in and cream off the highly lucrative business mail and courier services and Royal Mail is left to deliver stamped mail (christmas card, birthday card etc) on which it loses 6p on every one delivered.

That's why your stamp prices go up (which even with inccreases are still some of the lowest priced in Europe) and the plethora of junk mail that drops through your door.
I used to work for the RM and my best friend is still working for them. If you think it's bad now wait until postmen's routes are bumped up to 4 hours 15 mins with the new Pegasus system being implemented.
The main problem at Royal Mail is the top brass, they are just clueless (Consignia anyone?). The rank and file postman signed up for a job that has totally changed in terms of workload and hours. A lot of guys I know were entitled to breaks, but they couldn't take them (including me) or they would be late in their rounds. The management only care about hitting targets and will do anything to make them to get their bonus. I'm glad to be out of the place, the job used to be tolerable before Single Daily Delivery (the reason you get your mail at 1pm+) but now it's a thankless task.
arclight, I've removed your subscriber number from that post for you, just incase.
Re : Royal Mail and the current profits problem.
Have they always been losing money? It worked years ago, why can't the system work now?
That's because no-one else is allowed by law to deliver the "standard" mail - at the moment.....
Me? Done that - no joy. They have you over a barrel.Could you ask them to send it by courrier?
