Mods, feel free to remove this if it should be posted elsewhere. Just wanted to provide a heads up... :)

Just to inform you that despite hearing initially that RMSD will be guaranteed on the strike days, RM's website has indicated that this is not the case.

From here: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=99700760&mediaId=102200780

Mail deliveries in the majority of areas are likely to be limited to the delivery of premium services such as Special Delivery™ and Royal Mail Tracked™ items on Friday 23rd October.
However, it goes on to say:
Whilst we will continue to accept, prioritise and expect to deliver Special Delivery™ and Royal Mail Tracked™ mail on strike days, the nature of the CWU action means we cannot guarantee doing so. In order to provide customers with clear guidance on service, we have removed the Special Delivery guarantee for items due for delivery today and tomorrow, Saturday 24th October. We will restore the guarantee of delivery as soon as we can be sure we can honour the service promise and we expect to be able to do this byMonday 26th October.
A RMSD package sent to me on Wednesday AM for guaranteed delivery Thursday before 1pm has now slipped and hasn't arrived today (Friday) either

So don't expect anything soon, even if sent RMSD :(

i understand it maybe slower but will arrive and will be insured if lost

They were guaranteeing on Wednesday for Thursday delivery so whoever sent to you should be able to claim on it. I had a parcel coming which is why I checked it out the other day.

I can second on that, I checked in with my local post office on Wednesday who were guarunteeing for Thursday.

Their comments regarding friday were a bit more vague and along the lines of: "Managers will try to deliver SD parcels themselves but they probably wont bother and we're supposed to assure you they will try their best"

:bat:

awkward bugg*rs.

I can assure you they do "bother",my collegues have delivered 100% of the the SD that arrived here today.

I don't think anything I posted yesterday RMSD will arrive today.

Weirdly.. I received all my post yesterday as normal, including two Recorded Deliveries. Deliveries in Cambridge seem to be OK..but not sure about collections.

I went to the post office depot this morning to collect another item and the depot staff were working.

sent a parcel TODAY was told it could be next week before it arrives despite using RMSD

The delivery staff weren't on strike yesterday, they are today though. The depot staff were on strike yesterday, but aren't today.

I'll liaise with Dave for him to claim or whatever. It was sent on Wednesday with the confirmation that it would arrive on Thursday. The tracking number he PMed me was missing a character, but I think it was the B (it ended in G and normally, UK parcels have their tracking numbers ending in GB).

I checked earlier, and it said "it's on its way". I checked recently and it said the number was unknown  Hopefully a typo in the PM he sent me.

Either way, unhappy that we both sorted the transaction quickly in a way to avoid any hang ups with delivery, and your comment reassures me in that I was sure that was the case on Wednesday.

Incidentally, we did have post at work yesterday (when it should have arrived), and no post today at all, whether standard, recorded or special delivery

I live in London, and got no posts for nearly a week now. Its a good thing cos it means less junk letters :D

A package was sent to me yesterday RMSD and arrived today as scheduled (by a different driver than usual though!).

I also sent 4 packages yesterday and, even though I was told that there was a good chance that they would not be delivered until Monday, all of them were delivered today.

Go figure ...

I was told today by the Motherwell branch of the post office that they wouldn't even take my rmsd guaranteed saturday order as there was no chance it would arrive on time. I was also told they had a back room stacked with orders and i should keep the parcel till Monday to send it.

I bought a snooker cue on the bay of fleas(Argggh!!

) [I know, I know] Wednesday night.

The cue was posted via Parcelforce yesterday lunchtime, it arrived this afternoon so I cannot complain about that!

By the way, for those of you who are even vaguely interested, the cue is a corker, so the 'bof' gamble paid off! :D

My latest purchase from Kerso was posted yesterday and delivered today:)

I sent a parcel yesterday and it arrived today. I was told that they wouldn't guarantee it and had a bit of an arguement with the bloke in the post office saying that surely if they cant guarantee it then I should get a discount but apparently the system couldn't deal with that.

Sold a lens, both myself and the buyer agreed it would be best to leave it until Monday

No other option than RMSD anyway, don't fancy sending out expensive kit only insured for £39 by 1st class recorded

Daresay the only reason they have stopped giving the delivery guarantee is to avoid paying the compensation if its not there on time
No doubt all in the small print anyway, forces outside their control etc etc

No complaints from me, firstly its usually a damn fine service and secondly got some sympathy with any workers having their terms and conditions worsened by a hard nosed management

i work for royal mail as a postman and all special deliveries that come to my office (which is based in north london) while we are on strike are delivered by the managers.
As for the confusion of people still receiving mail during the strike, although it was a 2 day strike it was the mail centres that were on strike on thursday and the delivery offices (postmen) that were on strike today, so mail would still have been delivered thursday but not today.

Well, the managers must have really liked going out in the sunshine. Because, as I say, all my mail was delivered this morning.

Was probably your neighbour posting your mail who had it delivered through his letterbox by mistake, stupid postmen!

yesterday about 1 pm i posted a lens to another member on here in hull, i used recorded signed for, and he got that lens today, that's amazing...

I offer my customers RMSD or courier as an option, but the vast majority choose bog-standard 2nd class, and they've been staying away in droves for the past fortnight. End of small biz, I hope not :bang:

Well, my ball head posted last Wednesday arrived yesterday. It didn't even turn up on Monday.

From my experience, service should be badged RFSD :bang:
