Anyone had any experience of Royal Mail Special Delivery 'losing' an item.

Sent a lens a week ago or so RMSD, didn't arrive, entering the tracking number-it still says it's in the system?

Luckily the lens is insured to £500.

Have reimbursed the buyer for price of lens (on the understanding that if the lens turned up he would re-pay).

So will go through the claims process (after 10 working days) -has anyone done this ?, how easy is it ?, any minefields I need to be aware of?

I've experienced it on much lower value items

Found the system to be antiquated & inefficient, but simple enough.

Don't expect the money for a good month or so!

Very generous of you to reimburse so soon. I have to admit I would have waited the 10 or 12 days first.

RM lost an order (value about £100) that Clifton Cameras sent to me.

A week after dispatch Clifton replaced the order. CC seemed quite laid back about it so I reckon is was not unusual.

The Royal mail seems to be hopeless at the moment - I have just put a claim in for 8 “signed for items”. I only sent 8 items during the month and they are unable to produce a signature for any of the 8 items. (Different days and locations)

100% failure

They have refunded 6 of them (after some argument and a 26 page letter) but have refused to refund the other 2 as the ROYAL MAIL PO BOX NUMBER POST CODE IS INCORRECT...
Despite the fact that the post office verified it as correct and the business it was sent it to has the address on all of its letters... – and the business has replied to the letters on several occasions from the “Wrong Address”.
The customer service is rubbish as well…

Good luck with your claim you will need it…

I've had something get lost, it was going to Ireland - I refunded the buyer, but it took about 2 months for the cheque to come through to re-imburse me.

I agree, but I'm the buyer so it's cool as he knows I'll pay. ;)

I trusted him with the money prior to him sending the lens, so there's no difference really -- buying online involves trust both ways!

Anyway, I made this thread before I found this one!

Fingers crossed it will arrive soon, I guess.

Very good of you to point out to the seller that you have a scam going on with the postman

I purchased an item the other week from another forum member, he sent it RMSD, when i got home from work it was left outside my front door, i live in a flat in a block of 6 so there is always the possibility the girl next door signed for it and left it outside my front door (she,s a bit dim like that and i haven't seen her to ask) however if that's the case i'm sure the postie should leave a card to say item left at no xxx, but nothing in which case that is terrible service on both counts

It's like what I said in my thread, anyone can sign for any item -- most posties don't care and just want to get their job done so they can go home. I'm getting ganged up on in my thread for trying to do something about it.

Ring the Post Office and ask to verify the signature. It could have quite easily have been a £1,000 lens in the same position, so it's best to crack down on it now. :)

I had a packaged thrown over my garden fence and it landed on the patio without a signature.

Luckily it wasn't a lens or camera, was only some books.

What if you'd been on the sun-lounger and they landed in your lap? The mind boggles . . .

It actually was a lens, but worth about £340 new i think, i'm guessing ethier the girl next door signed, as she's done this before with some books i had from Amazon, or it was a different postie for the day, as the regular one is normally pretty good, however in the case of a RMSD he should have put a card through the letter box to say it was next door :(
