Royal Mail Postage Problems

Why don't you do the simplest thing and just ask him to email you a scan (or photo) of the receipt. If he really has a receipt with your post code on it for that date then you are probably ok, if not then I do not know :(

Thats a good point, will do thanks:thumbs:

Those guys are always moaning...when I worked for them I was earning more money than
I needed...I went to the USA about 10 times in 2 years, talk about unskilled...can you
read? Well that's all you need.

Another day with post received for me - any news from the OP???

No post yet - generally around 12 ish for us. Rang him yesterday, and turns out his gf used 2nd class standard parcel, and that the cambridge PO sorting or something was on strike mon, tue, thurs fri and tomorrow, so for 2nd class I bet its still at Cambridge po!

Have you got a scan of the receipt - standard parcels will show your postcode and street number? (and item weight)

What worries me as is that I've had a For Sale thread running here in the Classified - posting from Cambridge and my stuff is getting there next day or the day after.... and isn't been held up.

My postie is on strike tomorrow (I asked him), but I've had post today and yesterday (not expecting any tomorrow)

I'll ring him later and confirm(he works now) cause yesterday when I asked that, he siad there was no other info on the receipt other than the amount she paid. I agree this sounds odd now, unless she just purchased stamps to the costa and stuck them on? I've been on RM website, but its not that easy to understand, but looks like she would've used 'packets' and 'standard parcel', I guess.

I'm not trying to worry you but the maximum you can send via 2nd Class is 1kg you see. And a D5000 + lens would be over that, and probably hitting 2kg, so it would be it would either be 1st Class, or Standard Parcels (which shows your post code and house number)

The stuff about the sorting office being on strike sounds bogus, as there hasn't been any unofficial action. Post here has been good for sending and receiving.

The fact this person is still talking to you is good (and not very scammy!) but the sorting office strike thing is definitely not right.

just read this and it doesn't sound good but I've got my fingers crossed for you.

I'll ask hima all that, as he said the combined weight came to 2.7 kg, cause he said his gf was going to use that but it was around £22

It wouldn't cost that much for standard parcels, sounds more like 1st class for that kind of fee...

Yes sorry typo, it was about £22 for special delivery. God knows, I would have happily paid an extra tenner!:bang:

Special Delivery Next Day, 2-10kg: £21.65 with compensation up to £500; or £22.50 for compensation up to £1000.

Standard Parcels with compensation up to £500 would be £10.56 (£7.06 basic rate for 2-4kg).

Went in to my loacal PO and explained what the seller had done, and they said that as it was 2nd class, and there is a massive backlog of stuff, and that the sorting offices are on strike in Cambridge, this delay is expected... I'm feeling a mite happier ;)

Listen to me, I work for Royal Mail and there are no wildcat strikes at the moment, now it's all been voted for and official there are only the ones I listed above, which are nationwide, but not ever employee strikes

Sadly no. We're giving it till Wednesday and then having my money back :(

Lucky you (getting a refund) but bear in mind that Standard Parcels should arrive 3-5 days after posting and that Royal Mail ask the sender to wait a further 15 working days before making a claim. Dunno if they count Saturday as a working day, but you're talking about a month before they consider an item is lost, and that's in normal circumstances.

I don't think it was ever posted - there are certainly no postage problems in Cambridge.. I posted a book and lens to two people here on Friday and both have got their items today (the book (forum freebie) was 2nd class, the lens Royal Mail Special).

IMHO this was never posted - I suspect the seller twigged it was too cheap as the Sorting Office line is just a lie tbh!

Hope you do get a refund....:'(

Nothing today, last chance tomorrow then asking for a refund :(

Did you get any success in getting a refund?

Today was the last day. I rang my sorting office and they reckon give it another week. They also said try tracking it from the post office where he sent it, even though it wasn't recorded or anything. I don't know, but I've texted the seller (never answers his phone!) and just waiting for him to ring me back.

Spoke the the seller and we've both agreed to wait till nxt saturday. My choice, as if he then refunds me and it comes its a bit of a messing around, easier just to wait. I'm 100% sure with the seller, would he still be talking if he was scamming? Still, I've just bought a Nikon D70S and 18-55 VR to keep me going. Good price too, though I'm not giving up hope on the D5000 yet, my soting office remains optimistic. :)

Don't let slip to the sorting office what's in the package you're expecting...

Just read this thread, what a nightmare for both parties. If the deadline passes, then he should at least refund 50% of the money. If another 2 weeks go past with no parcel, then he should refund the other half. It's his (gf) fault not yours.

I thought of that too. I didn't mention on here as the RM are getting enough stick really. I just gave them to think it was more of sentimental value.

I'm amazed that you are still expecting to receive a package.
