Had a problem with my wireless network today, poor connection and throughput.
I powered down the router several times but it did no good, eventually I rebooted it through the GUI and it solved the problem.
I had thought that a power down was effectively a reboot but it seems I am wrong - what does a reboot do that a power down doesn't?

There really shouldn't be any difference, unless you perhaps didn't wait long enough keeping the power off and it didn't actually reboot.

One thing with some routers you've got to be careful off is to actually write any configuration settings to the flash memory. If you don't it may load another configuration following a proper reboot.

Thank you - I switched off then went upstairs to the loo and switched it back on when I came down again so I think it should have been long enough

I now think that it may have been a problem with the laptop rather than the router ... I removed the wireless profile from the laptop and re-established the connection and it seems to have resolved the slowness I was getting ... time will tell :)

Good glad to hear.
