As above just went to use my 400d and found that the sensor is missing and the mirror mech seems to be faulty. Does anyone know a rough cost to get it fixed or a new sensor and mirror fitted cost cheers in advance

not meaning to be unsympathetic, but how the hell did your sensor go missing? :D

You'll be a few hundred to fix I'd imagine, probably not worth it :(

I don't know used it last night and then swapped the lens over to my 50d and went to use this I've had a look for the sensor but cant find it anywhere I'll post a pic up in 2 mind to show what I mean

That looks like the shutter screen sure you not left it in mirror lock up mode try a bios reset.

It's not that the sensor is not there and the mirror just feels loose

Errr, for the sensor to fall out would take the work of Houdini - to remove one you need to strip the camera right down to the chassis, it can't just drop out....

I'm going to take it to the camera shop beside central station tomorrow and see what they think. hope it's just a quick fix absolutely gutted get a new camera and the old one brakes

Here is the 400D sensor assembly

there's no way that could fall out through the front of the camera.....

I've heard instances of mirrors falling off, was it Canon 5D? and it was clearly a free repair from Canon.

But a sensor going missing? That really is something else !

If this really is the case I doubt that anyone can give you a rough cost, it's more likely a write off. All I can suggest is that you get a quote from Canon themselves.

If I didn't have to work tomorrow I'd be going to AJ Johnstones and paying them to let me sit in their reception till this job comes in.

Second thoughts, maybe it was that guy from the Real hustle TV sho, he was nicking peoples lenses the other day, maybe he swiped your sensor when you weren't looking!

Looks like either the mirror spring that pulls the mirrow down has come off its bearing or the mirror is stuck in the up position. Use your finger to pull down the mirror, if it comes down easily then then flops about its the spring, if it keeps going back up then the mirror mechanism needs replacing. Somwhere between £60 and £120

Well went this morning and it's the motor that's away and it's about 110 to fix so not as bad as I thought. They told me that the curtain was down that's how I was worried and thought the sensor had fell out

Although its an expense i'm glad its not as bad as you imagined,
Best wishes
Cliff
