I have Canon EOS 7D and have taken up photography to photograph my love of m/cycle racing (mainly MX and Enduro), most of my photos are taken with camera on side (like portrait not landscape), i have set the camera menu to auto rotate, but when i down load to my PC (Windows XP) the images are not rotated but still in the position i took them in and as i take some 3000+ images at a time it takes a long time for my pc to rotate quarter turn counter clockwise, i have the camera setting to auto rotate on camera and personal computer, it does do the auto rotate on camera but not on PC.

Please help
 
I've just been through the menu on my canon and the only setting I can find is the 'Auto Rotate - On' and I have never had a problem. I'm thinking that it may be your using Windows to view the photos. For a quick view of images, I shoot raws only, you could try downloading 'Faststone ImageViewer'. It's free and I find it great for quickly viewing photos before using Photoshop or Lightroom.
