Cameras and video equipment are to be banned from a medieval chapel in the Lothians which had a starring role in the Da Vinci Code blockbuster film.

Speaking to BBC Scotland news website, Colin Glynne-Percy, Rosslyn Chapel director, said he had taken the decision on health and safety grounds.

He said: "We have had reports on a regular basis of people falling as they walk through the chapel while looking at the screens on their cameras so we have decided to ban them.

"We have taken the decision because we are trying to pre-empt further accidents as the floor is very uneven and badly cracked.

"After we had a woman in the summer fall and need first aid treatment we thought we had to do something about it.

"We also have to be aware of flash photography in such a small enclosed space causing epilepsy."

:)

Surely by looking at the evidence and producing rational logical conjecture it would be permissable to allow non digital cameras? Or put up signs saying no flash photography or chimping!!

Ooh I forgot this is a chapel so the above process wouldn't apply.

Photographers are welcome at the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster ;)

I've come accross a number of churches and cathederals that don't allow photography so this is not new. Others do allow it, but make a charge ( ususally £4-5) I'm OK with that as it goes towards the upkeep.

So it's all down the the Flying Spaghetti Monster then

I think this is a health & safety issue, borne out of a compensation attitude.
When I read about the crap peeps try to make claims for, it doesn't surprise me, imagine the legal bills just to defend such a claim, cannot all be funded by insurance, or sooner or later insurance will be un-affordable.
Anyone whos been involved in any kind of accident, where the claiment uses a no win no fee agent, will know what I'm talking about.
Sometimes its cheaper just to pay out than defend it in court, who was actually at fault is irrelivent.

"After we had a woman in the summer fall and need first aid treatment"....gave them the bum rush..

Yea....next people will be banned from using MP3 players in public for risk of walking into walls, buses etc due to being too into their music !

Health and Safety reasons???

Are people banned from entering wearing dark glasses, or MP3 players?

Are they going to ban 'guide books' as well, just in case someone looks down at their book, trips and then falls?

Absolutely crazy!

I don't see them banning people from looking up at the chapel roof. There is no difference between looking up and tripping and taking a photo and tripping. IMHO is is safer taking a picture because you are standing still while composing.

I won't take any bets that they will soon be selling postcard and slides of the roof starting at £1+ a time. Health and Safety is being used as an excuse. Why don't they just admit that they strapped for cash and want to make money. :suspect:

As for flash photography, I would like to see the research that came to that conclusion.
