I am just looking for a bit of advice, our roses seem to be struggling to bloom for some reason, we are not sure why or what to do.
Any help most welcomed.
Cheers Andy.

Flower Balling: This physiological condition is a primary suspect. It occurs when cool, wet weather saturates the outer petals of the developing bud. If this is followed by a period of sunshine and drying, the petals can fuse, forming a tight, papery casing that prevents the bud from opening. The bud may then dry out and turn brown. The appearance of the buds in the image strongly suggests this possibility.

If a bud is already balled, you can sometimes gently try to loosen the outer, dried petals. Use your fingers very carefully to see if they will separate. If they do, the inner petals might then be able to unfurl. However, be gentle, as you can easily damage the bud further. Don't force it if the petals are firmly stuck or seem rotted.

Unfortunately, once a bud is severely balled and the outer petals have fused and dried hard, it's unlikely to open properly. The focus is often on prevention for future flushes of bloom and subsequent years.
