Just had stage one of 3...

The local anesthetic didn't get through the infection so felt a bit of pain as was poking around. Antibiotics prescribed and an appointment in 2 weeks.

Let's see how I feel tonight but I reckon poking around a nerve is going to cause me some discomfort!

I've had a few well four on my front upper teeth and didn't have any pain in theory as long as they've got all the nerve out you shouldn't have any pain later :thumbs: watch out for the wadding coming out of the hole as it tastes nasty :puke:

It's an interesting treatment, if you've not has one before honestly there really is nothing to worry about :thumbs:
 
He couldn't get it all out because it was infected and the anesthetic wouldn't go past the infected tissue hence I felt pain, he had to stop and I have another appointment to go back.

It is an interesting treatment which in theory, should leave me feeling much better :)

Did you get crowns Matt??

Had the same thing only a few weeks ago and same issues, only took two treatments though, as I was given the antibiotics on the initial check up. Then went in for the root canal, but the inflamation hadn't fully subsided so was painful and he couldn't fully clear one of the 3 canals. So, it was packed with more anti-bacterial and anti inflamatory stuff and a temp filling put it - FWIW< I expected to be in pain that night too and I have a low pain threshold, but a couple of ibuprofen and all was absolutely fine, it remained painless. Went back 2 weeks later, all sorted and now totally pain free and a million times better :thumbs: I will eventually have a crown put on it, but thats probably for next year now ;)

Oh did did he at least have the decency to prescribe some decent pain killers? I was a little too doped up to be able to tell you exactly what was done but I did get some enamel caps, not sure if those are classed as crowns :( I was done at the Birmingham Dental Hospital as I was a very nervous patient and as such got a lot of NO2 etc ;)

I'm usually pretty good with pain, I was sitting with my legs crossed thinking about unrelated stuff but when he was poking around to see if the canal was clear that little nerve branch told me it wasn't!
 
Great fun, root canal!!! My dentist doesn't like prescribing antibiotics so usually drills and antiseptic packs rather than Amoxicillin. Suits me since I've had more than enough antibiotics and think they're much overused. Like Yv I usually go the self administered Ibuprofen route, although last time I may have had a couple of the heavy duty pain killers left from last year!
 
The wadding that Matt spoke of is soaked in clove oil....that's the icky taste :lol:
 
The medicated stuff tastes even worse! Clove oil is good for reducing toothaches but does taste pretty bad.
 
I have had a lot of trouble with my teeth which includes root fillings, crowns etc. The worst thing I had was an apicoectomy. That was not pleasant.(it hurts now just thinking about it)
