Hi, iv just started getting into photography and my first DSLR camera is the sony a390. It came with the 55-70mm lens and I can get very clear close up shots. I enjoy plane spotting so does anyone know the best lens for longer zoom shots is? It's all new to me so I'm not sure what I need. Many thanks. Ben
 
Define best? I'd probably want a longer lens (300mm etc) but is cost a factor? Hopefully taking pictures of the sky will provide plenty of light so low F numbers aren't essential unless you want a really shallow depth of field?
 
I'd be looking to spend around £300 on a lens. But I don't know if it has to be a sony lens or are other makes of lens compatible. Thanks Ben

You have a fair amont to chose from with that budget pop over to dyxum and have a browse , then search around. What suits others might not suit you.
