I'm a total novice to car roof boxes, haven't got a clue. Can anyone recommend a roof box and fittings for a F30 BMW 330? Looking for a full width one and decent size but mindful of the shark fin on the roof. I'm guessing it would be best to have dual opening also but other than that I don't have a clue about makes, roof bar fittings etc. I need to have a similar capacity as a Honda CRV so I'm thinking about 360L+ ? Not sure though.

Can't recommend one but have a look at this site. The sell boxes so caveat emptor, but there looks to be a fair bit of useful info on the site, eg that you'll get more capacity and flexibility with two boxes than with one large one.

Thanks, that's the company I've been looking at recently but I was wondering if there were any real world opinions on their boxes? Had a look at Halfords but their Exodus boxes seem to get mixed reviews.

At the moment I'm looking at the following:

CRUZ steel bars
Adapter kit
Locking kit
Hapro Roady 4000

All for £279 seems fairly reasonable I guess?

I've a monster size box, used to go on the espace, but I lend it out to everyone. The roof bars tend to lift it clear of shark fin aerials. Our is a Paddy Hopkirk international and is still going strong after about 15 years

It was worth us getting a large one as it now goes on the estate. The dog goes in the boot.

How do you find it for space though, as in more the shape? The roofbox is only 80 litres smaller than my boot but I can't see me getting two suitcases into it!

I am after one myself at the moment. I have been shopping around and have decided on this setup-- Thule "Wing" roof bars £212 at Halfords but can be got for £187 online. Halfords roofbox for £129. My thinking is, getting good quality low noise roof bars so they can stay on the car and make a saving by getting the Halfords box. I have played around with a few different makes of roof boxes and no matter what the cost they are all very flimsy until they are closed. The Halfords one seems equally as good as the more expensive ones. http://www.halfords.com/motoring/roof-bars-roof-boxes/roof-boxes/halfords-250l-roof-box-grey https://www.thule.com/en-gb/gb/roof-rack/roof-bars/thule-wingbar-960-_-960100

For me it's just twice a year, possibly three times that I'll be using it and it's just for UK so I'll be removing the roof bars each time. It's bad enough having a white BMW when driving at night but having a permanent set of roof bars on top will make cars in front drive even slower.

I think for me ease of fitting and removal will be important so either dual opening or a rear opening is a must.
