I'm thinking about going to the Lightning Preservation Group's Rolling Reheat Twilight Run on Saturday but have never tried photographing such subjects. I would want to have the photos show some detail of the aircraft but not attempt a fully exposed shot so would be grateful for any advice offered on exposure and whether a tripod would help.

TIA

Seems like a few elements are involved here.

Hope to see you there.

I've just checked the weather forecast for tomorrow, sunny intervals all afternoon, so I've booked my tickets. If you see a confused looking late 50s person in a wheelchair that'll probably be me, a hello would be welcomed.

Hi Andy, Sorry that I've only just seen this message, maybe we did see each other a Brunty today, I recall seeing only one wheelchair, was you with your wife/girlfriend? I was walking towards The Guppy, you was on the way back towards the Lightning Shed and as I passed I said "Oroight mate"You said hello back.
Hope you managed to get some good snaps.

Yes that was me, my fault for not making my mind up until the last minute as the weather forecast kept changing - at one point it included mist which would have made it a bit of a risk going. Unfortunately it was my first attempt at photographing anything in such low light and I got it wrong but at least I know what to do next time. The other problem was that for the second run the afterburners weren't lit until the plane had moved a way down the runway meaning the crowd was in the way: I know to be a bit further down the line next time.
