Hi folks,

We had a Rodinax 35U daylight developing tank donated last week and I took it home this weekend to make sure it's working ok.

The way it works is that you attach a clip onto the film leader, close the lid, then wind the film onto the spiral. The clip is attached to a piece of flexible plastic by passing through a loop back on itself, then presumably glued down. Unfortunately the glue isn't holding the clip in place any more and it's come loose.

So my question, is how can I repair this? My options as I see them.

1. Reglue the plastic. Whatever glue I use will have to weather dev, stop and fix and needs to be strong enough to pull the film out of the can. Superglue was my first thought, but I wonder whether it will corrode the plastic or contaminate the dev/fix. It's a soft flexible belt-like material a bit like a very cheap kids plastic watch strap.

2. Tape it down. Less corrosive, but more prone to coming apart in repeated dev sessions. No idea what tape to best use. Ideally plumbers tape, but that needs a few wraps to seal and the belt itself is quite small.

3. Put a staple in it or other hard fixing. Concerns around rusting and tearing of the plastic.

There is a blog post here (https://rondinax.wordpress.com/2014/05/02/rondinax-replacing-the-belt/) that talks about replacing the belt and the image shows what it looks like (mine is the clear version on the right, but the orange one shows how it's just folded over & glued). Reading further, and looking at the comments, Superglue does seem to do the trick. Just thought I'd ask here before taking a step I can't undo. It's worth fixing as it'll make pretty good money for the charity if it's in "working" condition.

Do. Not. Use. Staples!

Reader, I did use staples on the strap in my Rondinax, and after a few months I started to get a lot of crud on my negatives. It took several months before I realised that my staples were rusting away.

I'm pretty sure I used glue. The answer might be on here, around September 2017. I'll see if I can find the post.

I had to search as well, but with the benefit that I knew who wrote the post I was looking for!
