Bubble wrap what a great idea but looks oof

Its just a very shallow depth of field using extenders means even at f5.6 i'm getting only a cm of depth.

Hi Rob

bubble wrap is great stuff , like the 2 tones & the angle you've shot at....maybe crop a little of the oof bit from the rhs so the image starts with the in focus bubbles ?

Thanks guys, was definitely a trick one. I didnt have a black background for starters so just underlit the smoke and exposed for that.
Now onto mineral.

Well done Rob, good colour (y) I gave up very quickly trying to capture just smoke like this :banghead:

I like the blue tone of the smoke - not at all easy to do is it

Great colours. Great effort on a tricky subject. I will be revisiting smoke photography when I get a spare 5 minutes.

Mineral - looks a bit soft, perhaps a slightly larger DOF but nice composition and very pretty stones.

Sense - fits the theme very well - perhaps taken for a different andgle to lose the big tree behind the memorial.

Mineral, as said slightly soft but on theme and I quite like the OOF BG.

Sense, like it. I was after something along these lines myself. I'd have been tempted to do a triptych using elements of the monument as it's quite busy with the items on the floor and wide DOF.

Cheers.

Hi, Agree with the comments above regarding the monument, its a little lost also not the most inspiring monument

Mineral - fits the theme nicely, I like the composition. But the image lacks something to give it the wow factor.

Sense - again fits the theme, but I don't like the composition. I find the rubbish on the bottom left off the image distracting. I think maybe having shot it from a different angle may help the image.

Mineral, as others have said its lacking something. A crop to exclude the sky may help to give it more impact.

Sense, again as has been mentioned a different point of view may have given a less messy background

The rubbish is a childs attempt at making some flowers out of paper.

Thanks for the comments again my fellow 52ers.

The bit of moss on the larger stone could do with either cloning or cropping out.

The stack of stones is well done though

Not sure on the sense one, not sure why

I like mineral, composition and dof work really well (y) does just look a little soft to me though :)

Sense is certainly on theme, but possibly a different composition

Like your mineral shot more than the sense one. As others have said, maybe it's the composition / angle / something. However it does fit the theme well.

The mineral pic is a little out of focus, (I know you have used a large aperture but I can't see where the focus point is), but I like the composition etc.
The monument is a very fitting take on the theme

Mineral: I find the background a bit distracting and think it would benefit from a close up of the stones themselves.

Sense: on theme, but maybe again a close up on one or more of the elements rather than trying to cover everything would help.

I did do a close up of the stones, but then its just a pile of stones like others have done. The photo is taken from Lead Mines Clough and mining was done on the stream so i liked the idea of the stream in the background sort of story telling.
Like other comments i wish i had used f5.6 at least to get more of the stones in focus but i forgot my tripod so needed the lower number for handheld, thats my little tripod permanently with me from now on.

The monument i purposly took the shot like this because i have already done a different angle a few years back so didnt want to repeat, here it is by the way.

If it didnt make me feel like cheating i would actually use this shot. All comments taken on board. Thanks guys.

Hi
I like the tones of Mineral, a little OOF- where are tripods when you need them!
Sense...i find these tall thin objects difficult to shoot, too much background included when you try to get it all in shot.
I much prefer your second shot and it fits in with theme. It may be an old shot but its new on here so I dont really see repeating it as an idea.

Mineral & Sense: Hi mate...All crit has been covered above regarding focus issues, cropping and differents POV's.....Well done on getting 'out there' and getting the shots in the bag. Cant ask for more than that really (y)
