Theme: Week 00 - Pattern

Brief Description:
This was a very quick turn around got the shot in few seconds and PP'd in Photoshop CS6. Yes a photo of my sub-woofer and no this is not a commercial image nor I am paid by Bose :D
Setup: Camera on pillow, woofer stayed where it is, 1 LED handheld lighting from the top left.
Rigs:
Canon 5D3
Zeiss 35-70mm f/3.4 lens with C/Y to EOS adapter
35mm FL close focus Macro mode @ f/11
Manual exposure @ 1/15 s/s
ISO 1250
Post Processing: Curves, colour correction, curves and curves again (LOL), decided to go B&W conversion and applied duo-tone preset, high pass sharpening, resize to 1200px, sharpen, save for web.

Hi Robin... nice image which is perfectly on theme. I like your choice of lighting direction - really brings out the texture of the grill and the shadow from the Bose logo is, compositionally, a nice add.

I wonder whether it could stand maybe upto a stop of extra exposure... but I like it low key as well. Nice job!

Great textures especially the Logo.
I like the way the top left grill holes look bevelled on the top edge,Yet seem to disappear on the bottom right ones.

Hi Robin and welcome

Nice idea but .... looks a bit noisy to me

over PP'd ??

Hi Paul thank you for commenting, I want to get the viewers eye to the light not shadow, also I think that the shadow areas does not add any value because of similar pattern feature as the rest of the negative space but you do get a hint from the light reflected back up from the bottom in which it lights up the circle a bit :)

Hello and welcome to the challenge, off to a great start with that image.

Hi Mandy thank you :)

Hi Kev, thanks for comment :)

I noticed that before even I started to PP, it is due to my error, I didn't clean it before taking the shots :p

Nice simple straight forward start good luck for your 52 this year

Hi, sad as it is, first thing I noticed was the White dot below the B and O :geek:

That said, I do like the low key lighting and it's well composed.

Cheers.

Probably dust or some sort of defects, this is pretty old speaker and has been moved quite a bit... thanks :)

Nice one Robin - I really like this image, great choice for the lighting, in giving the image much more depth with the shadow and the highlights to each and every hole, look forward to the rest of your 52 (y)

Cheers Dean ... :)

An archive shot  I suspect I'll sound ar*ey but taking a photograph for the theme will help you more, IMHO.

That said, I do like it and it's one of the first ideas I had and am looking to photograph tomorrow.

Silhouette works well and the colours are wonderful.

Cheers.

Hi Robin - that certainly looks like bliss to me! Well done, for the shot and the climb

Nice shot Robin and great fit for the theme of bliss :)

Hi Robin & welcome aboard

Bose Speakers...........I officially hate you:D I have lusted after BOSE speakers for years .......with a bit of a dust that could actually be advert material (y)

Bliss.....yup , I can image that would be quite a feeling......I ain't saying nuffink about using an archive shot:exit:

Welcome aboard Robin - Good to have you here !!!

Do you know what, I saw your practice image in the photos thread and I initially thought that it was your 'bliss photo'?
As with Lynne's comment above, it could certainly be interpreted as blissful - nice lighting which does something interesting to the pattern in the grid and just a little more dust removal required to make it perfect.

Lovely light and composition in the 'real' bliss image too.
I'd love to see what you originally had in mind for this - and when we have a re-shoot week maybe you'll get the opportunity.
For now, I really like that shot and it's fitting for the theme.

Hello and :welcome:. I climbed Cheviot many, many years ago and remember that feeling well so fits the theme perfectly and I love the shot. And I know this will sound a bit cheeky coming from me as I too posted an archive shot (but I took a new one too) as Posiview says, you'll get more out of this if you at least shoot something every week.

Still a cracking shot though :clap::clap:

Looks very blissful to me.

Thanks Mandy

Really nice shot and idea, definitely Blissful.

A difficult shot considering the contrast, looks great.

Cheers Dan

Hi Andy, work Mon-Fri early morning late finish plus not much lights before and after work anyway plus my location is not that ideal for bliss images that I wanted :p

Hi Robin - that certainly looks like bliss to me! Well done, for the shot and the climb

Thanks Lorraine, it was quite a challenge for me but not for others though... ;)

Bliss - that certainly looks very blissful to me, a super start to your challenge.

Thanks Mandy... ops 2nd Mandy here :D

Love the colours in the sky :)

Hi aurorae, thanks :)

Nice shot Robin and great fit for the theme of bliss :)

Thanks Michalene

Hi Lynne, it is quite affordable now considering my unit has served me 6 years... oh he he yes I'll keep quiet now :p

Hi Sarah thanks for input, I noticed the Week 00 image whilst I am doing the editing but bit lazy to clean it and redo again :p

Initially I was thinking of some portrait shot of Monk in a temple for the theme @Bliss but checking their website they have no activities until February, perhaps I should get in touch with them and see if I could do some portraiture images.

Hi Jill, I understand the purpose of the 52 challenge but as I mentioned above I wish I could do stuffs that I like be doing but as having a main job and photography as a hobby, there are limitations... but I put my best on it (y) by the way it was Stac Pollaidh up in Ullapool :D

Ooooh I think you should! That could be brilliant.
And I'm sure there will be other themes that could work for (y)

Nice fit to the theme I like it (y)

Hi Robin... that's definitely bliss for me - being up in the mountains and being able actually to see something apart from cloud :) (My ratio of visible munros ascents to invisible ones isn't very good!)

Also well done for dragging a tripod up there! Good exposure control as Dan says... great take :)

Pattern - I like the idea. I feel a touch more exposure would have brightened the image to suit the Bose clean and sophisticated image a little more.

Bliss - I'm usually not that keen on seeing people in landscapes but this is a great example of it working especially given the pose. The colour tones have been well captured as well. Nice one.
