Not a major whinge but just a post to let people know of my recent experience with Robert White:

I placed an order online on 21st July for a 10stop B+W filter, it was showing "in stock" on the system. They immediately took payment from my credit card, everything seemed ok.

The following day the status of my order changed to "out of stock, expected the end of July".

I phoned them last week when they were unable to give me a delivery date but suggested they had a stock delivery this week and that the filter was probably part of it. I phoned again yesterday to find that the filter wasn't part of the stock and that they still were unable to give me a delivery date - I've now cancelled the order.

My main gripes here are:

1. They debited my credit card when obviously the item wasn't in stock
2. They seemed to have no idea on expected delivery

Personally I won't use them again

I am really supprised, I have used them a few times, and have always had excellent service, this has been when I have visited them. Must confess that the only reason that I have not ordered a 10 stop filter is the 6-8 weks delivery that I have seen on their website.

mine turned up yesterday ordered on 25th may

I have one on order for 1st sept onwards useage on the coast, i ordered from them on 14th July, i emailed them on Monday and they said will be in stock in 2 weeks. I bloody hope so because all i have to take with me are grads 0.3 0.6 0.9's

B&W 10 stops are made to order, at least last I checked they were. 3 month I waited on mine, warehouse express. Maybe they are ramping volume up now based on how popular they are getting. When I ordered mine, I was also told in stock, and eventually got an honest update. Again Warehouse Express, NOT Robert White.

The "BBC" comment has passed my by

If I'd have know when placing the order that the wait was 6 weeks + then that's fair enough, it's then my decision to wait - the 67mm was showing "in stock" though.
When I spoke to them they gave me the impression that they didn't have a clue what was going on :bonk:

I don't really think that they should debit peoples cards with the full amount when they don't keep adequate stock, a small deposit would be ok but that's it.

I wanted to ensure i had a 10 filter case cleaning fluid and 0.9 stop pro glass for our holiday and would not order unless instock.
Emailed as i was leaving for work, had reply saying all in stock.
Phoned next day to double check and yes they did have them and had put to one side as result of email this was mentioned in the email.
Was told to order online so did and items arrived next day.
If they had no stock and could not guarantee a date i would have gone else where.
This is my first and only experience of there service and for me it was great.

If you still require a 67mm one try www.speedgraphic.co.uk they are showing stock. but if I were you try phoning the order for confirmation.

I think you are totally overreaction. Not many shop actually do have a live stock count on the internet and maybe someone else bought the last item just before you. Sometime it is hard to get an estimate for any delivery in any retail environment.

Let's be fair to the OP. The web site indicated the item was "in stock". It then transpired after they took payment, that in fact it was not in stock. This is unfair, and in my opinion, misleading too. Same thing happened to me, the difference is, I had tried everywhere else before Warehouse Express, and they all told me about the "made to order" situation. I did not *really* expect warehouse express to have stock, even though they claimed to.

If a web site has a database hookup, which says "in stock", then if it's wrong, you have every reason and right to be upset.

Gary.

Yes. And more so if they take the payment.

To be honest I think my "reaction" is actually quite measured..no rant, just a simple explanation as to why I won't be using them again.

I think it's perfectable reasonable to be a little frustrated with a company that is prepared to take full payment for an item that isn't available, even though it's advertised as "in stock" and then find that they are not even able to provide an estimated delivery date. This isn't good practice - as mentioned though, Robert White are certainly not alone on this

Looking at the BBC thing perhaps confirms they don't have the most robust systems !!
