I have a Giant XTC4.5 MTB up in Scotland where I have a house for work up here, it has super knobbly tyres on it but I mainly use it for swift training runs on the miles of epic cycle tracks up here, I want to fit some road tyres to it. Any budget solutions. I seem to be struggling to find some that will fit my rims as they seem set for 50-559 ?

The cycle tracks are all very good tarmac I did see the city jets

I would need the 1.95 version for my rims?

@neil_g

I've had schwalbe city jet in 1.5" on my rigid mountain bike for a few years and they've been great, really noticeable on longer rides like the Manchester - Blackpool run. 1.5" a little lighter and roll a little quicker (maybe....;)) but a little less comfy than 1.95" and you'd probably need thinner inner tubes to suit.

I have the 1.9s on order so will see, I think they look like a good deal for me. The 1.5s also might look a bit skinny on my bike as it is oversized tubes and rockshox

I use Schwalbe Landcruisers - not as slick as the City Jets, but a good compromise for tarmac and light trail use.

Well thanks for all the advice ended up with a budget pair of Nutraks (Made by Maddison) for £`11 each, basically a slick 26x1.75.

Fitted them last night and went out for a cheeky 10 mile test ride, which ended up being a 24.5 mile test ride as I was just having soooo much fun :-)

They are e a real winner.

Dropped my best time down from about 1 hour 31 mins to 1 hour 26 mins on my 24.5 mile normal fitness ride.
