Many thanks for the feedback. I take on board what you have all said and all been well will attempt to re shoot the picture with all the above recommendations. The only reason the whole reflection is missing is that i set the lock up on the cooker ceramic hob, and you could see the round circles of the hob, BUT i have now found the clone icon in cs5. So will give it ago also.

And i thought Hard was going to be easy !!!!!!!! First i have sold my 450D, borrowed a 60D for the weekend to see if i like it. At first glance seems like a good camera, but everything in a different place to the 450. So operating the damn things as been hard. Then the subject matter, "hard as nails" first choice, already done, then i thought "hard bolied egg" again too late. Then i thought "hard faced", unfortunately the mother in law is on her hols. So i have come up with the below.

Hard Lines, used 4 "hard leaded" pencils. At present i find CS5 very daunting, but i have managed to adjust the exposure slightly and a little sharpening.

Looking at the pic, could do with the pencils lifting at angle to touch up with the lines.
But really enjoying the challenge, and looking at all other members pictures.

sorry I missed your week 3 - I think no 3 with the beautiful reflection is brilliant! great interpretation and processing, and a fab shot :)

week 4 - again, really good interpretation! not quite as keen on the composition and I find the purple bit at the top right hand corner a bit distracting, but great clarity in the shot :)

Looking at it again, totally agree with the comp and distracting corner, will have another go this afternoon. Many thanks HopefulM all comments do really help me (good and bad).
 
Hi Steve. Great minds think alike! I was last night thinking about taking pictures of a hard pencil. I agree with the above, It's a great take but the composition is a little off. Maybe if the writing on the pencil was the right way up as well? but maybe that's just me.
I really like the 3rd photo for week 4. Great reflection.
 
purple corner is distracting... but appart from that I really like this image...would be a great marketing shot for the manufacturer!

Thanks for the comments, i agree with everyone about the purple corner and the writing. Just done a quick reshoot to rectify. Does anyone have any lighting advice for still life (dont want to spend £100's)

Great idea for "Hard Lines". Very well shot. I much prefer the reshoot of it. Very clear image , nice one:thumbs:

Been looking back to your "Open" theme too. Against the general concensus I prefer the colour version as it says to me Brass lock. Although the reflections are better in the b&w's. Again. lovely clear shot.
Great story behind it btw.

week 5 - Nice take. Again I prefer the reshoot. I don't like the text saying "Hard Lines". I'd have made the three pencils on the bottom in the same orientation so you get the red/black pattern consistent.

Thanx for the comments, did n't notice the orientation till you mentioned it. But i do now. Learning point from this weeks theme is to look more closley at the composition of things and also look at the detail better. At the minute all i have in my head about the composition is the "rule of thirds". But have already learnt a lot in the 5 weeks.
 
Great shots for both week 4 and 5. Particularly like the lock shot with the key and if I had to choose I think I would go with the first pencil shot - the purple corner is a little bit distracting but great colours and focus.
 
Today i walked over 6 miles looking for washed up clutter on the East coast, not a single thing was on the beach. Unbelivable !!!! Went into Whitby to get a cuppa when i came across loads of crab/lobster pots "cluttered" on the Quayside and several boats with cluttered decks. The harbour master was not a happy chappy as the walkway was cluttered, making it difficult to get access to the lifebuoys.

got to agree Simon, Whitby is a photographers dream, went in the afternoon and there was lots of people about which restricted some opportunities. Planning to go very early in the morning in the next couple of weeks to try and beat visitors. Also would like to visit Staithes, not sure what it is like as it was about 30 odd years since i was last there. (still in a pushchair)
 
Really like the single image, just a shame about the red "thing"
The top left image of the four caught my eye as well. I was thinking that if it could have been shot from further to the right and from higher up so as to capture the row of houses it would have made a tremendous "Accommodation" shot for week 1.
 
Love the single shot for clutter, nice and sharp, plenty of interest and good light.

Whilst I also like the four in a frame, it doesn't speak clutter as the single image does IMO. Cannot imagine why! They say "seaside" though ;) Strange thing the human brain and mine is one of the strangest :lol:
 
Here's my attempt at "delicate".

Everything in the picture's are all hand made from icing sugar, i think that it depicts delicate very well, both in the flowers and the delicate colours. The flowers were made for a wedding cake 6 years ago. The women that made them was 70 years old and suffers with chronic arthritis of the hands. I have created a collage effect as could not decide which image portrayed the theme best.

Hope you like them as much as i enjoyed the cake. lol

3 of them look a bit dark to me and I bet you could boost the colours a bit.

Please excuse my lack of PS knowledge, what is the best way to boost the colours, and what is "Tryptic".

Got myself a CS5 book today, so tried to take your advice an lighten the pictures and boost the colours a little.

Hey PP takes time. Small tip, now that the image is lighter try manipulating the white balance a little, such like this:

Lynne really appreciate your comments. In the past i have shied away from pshop apart from the crop tool. It is something that i want to understand more about. Just bought a decent book on cs5, and going to sort out a ps course at the local collage. :thankyou:
 
Well after a "chaotic" week with work and family illnesses i have finally managed to submit this weeks pic, "chaos". I have really struggled with motivation this week and was going to use a joker card. Then during a visit to my mums she pointed to her box of embroidary cottons after my 2 year old grandaughter had managed to get the lid off. She pulled off all the labels and made a tangled chaotic mass of colours. After the picture was taken it took her nearly 2 hours to untangle them.
