Risk assessment

Trouble is that someone somewhere has probably fallen off a step ladder and sued their employer - its the compensation culture thats at the route of all this silly over red taping as employers try valiantly to cover their arse.

I'm also annoyed to find that you are younger than me

The fact that I have annoyed you has made my 2012 already........

I did some portraits recently inside a local college - they were quite happy provided that there were no trip hazards (cables, backdrops etc taped to floor with hazard tape); all means of escape / fire exits were clearly visible and not obstructed and that anything plugged into their electrical supply was PAT tested and in date.

All of the above had to be written down for their records.

They also needed a copy of my insurance cover - just in case.

yep so thats common sense, tape cables down and don't block fire exits....

Thank all of you,
Alastair, I don't have to follow a specific format and i can be more flexible in my RA, I doing it for my photography course, so its don't have to be complicated
Linton, thanks, for yours ideas , I think i can use nearly all of them

It's been quite interesting seeing the variety of responses that have come through. As a risk manager I have to do these all the time. Although it's financial services, the concept and thought process is the same. I could proffer some advice but the context set out by the OP is too vague.

To me a risk assessment could involve identifying and calculating the risks on the public and surroundings, himself/herself, or what may prevent the photo even being taken i.e. no battery/card/permissions/jumped up PCSO etc..

Deleted.

Details of suggested risk assessment process available on request.

I agree with Alastair. This is the approach I use, substituting 'threat' for 'hazard' because mine cover a different spectrum to health and safety. It's a pretty standard methodology and you can fine tune it to meet your own requirements.
