A good age but still sad to hear that Sir Tom Finney passed away today at the age of 91

Bill Shankly: The greatest player to ever play the game.

Sir Stanley Matthews : To dictate the pace and course of a game, a player has to be blessed with awesome qualities. Those who have accomplished it on a regular basis can be counted on the fingers of one hand - Pele, Maradona, Best, Di Stefano, and Tom Finney.

Sir Bobby Charlton: Occasionally I had the pleasure to play with him and it was the greatest pleasure anyone could ever give me. He passed to me on my England debut and I had never been so proud.

Never seen too much of him, before my time, but as indicated from the quotes posted by dinners by some other legends of the game, was regarded as one of the greats. RIP

Being a born and bred Prestonian, today is turning out to be quite emotional.

Each of the North End players will have Finney emblazened on the back of their shirts today with a minutes remembrance before the match. The Splash fountain of Sir Tom at the front of the stadium is today being used as a memorial and its great to see other clubs' fans paying their respects.

A sad day.

The gold old days when a footballer played with pride....for the enjoyment of the game...played with passion for their club....long gone are those days.
RIP Sir Tom

That's a nice touch with the shirts.

A sad day indeed but one also to celebrate the life of a true legend. Most of us are too young to remember his playing days but the vast majority of football fans, young and old, know who he was.

RIP

The photo that the splash fountain was based on must be one of the best football photos ever taken. I cut it out of the Lancashire Evening Post when I was young and impressionable and kept it for years.

I met him once - a long story - and he let me wear one of his England caps. Great thrill for a young boy.

My hero when I was a young lad. RIP Sir Tom

I was in one of my local pubs a few weeks ago and they happen to have a print of that on the wall....I was staring at it and thinking exactly the same thing, brilliant photo
