'Signs of Love' photography competition - Call for entries
http://www.photography-news.com/2013/02/signs-of-love-photography-competition.html

Now I am considering entering some competitions, so I looked into this. $20 entry fee with only $700 of prizes (in total). Rip off, or what? Why would you enter, given it's world-wide open entry? It's just a way or the organisers to make money.....

its not a rip off - they are upfront about how to enter and what you win.

Why is it a rip off? Firstly, most competitions will reserve the right to use your images in their own PR. You still retain the copyright and will probably be attributed. You're getting a free tear sheet for your portfolio!

Price? Many charge for entry and $20 isn't excessive.

All this is up front in their T&Cs. No rip off there so far as I can see. If you feel it;'s not worth entering, then don't enter. That doesn't make it a rip off though.

They only need 35 people to enter before they cover the total prize fund..... Yes they are being up front, but for $20 I would expect a prize a lot bigger than a few hundred dollars!
