RIP Meatloaf

So sad such a great singer RIP
( you just beat to posting this)

Yes, it is.
I tried to delete my thread when I saw yours but it wouldn't let me.

Only 74 too, love his music

(it's ok I've reported mine and edited it (y))

First saw him on the OGWT, great rendition of Paradise By The Dashboard Light.
Ordered Bat Out Of Hell as an import, got one of the better pressings.

RIP Meat

Never saw him live, but saw the Bat out of Hell musical in December last year.
Was a great show.

Noooooo! :(

Fantastic live performer, never disappointed.

OMG I'm shocked, didn't realise he was ill

So don't be sad, 'cause seventy three ain't bad.

Okay, he was 74 but a little poetic licence please

We played BOOH at my dad's service in November 2021, he loved that song and the energy Meatloaf put into it.

I've got the album on blood red vinyl and a gold coloured CD or SACD (can't remember). The regular black vinyl album gets a lot of play in this house. It'll get some more tonight.

Thanks for the memories Meatloaf (y)

Such a shame - not all of his stuff hit home with me but (like probably 98% of people my age!!) got Bat Out of Hell when it came out and no doubt the guy was a hell of presence that will be missed…..

Very sad news, as a fan for nearly 30 years I'm distraught! :crying:

I just booked to see the Bat out of hell musical at the Lyceum in May this week as well.

I hadn't heard (. He was a great entertainer.

They do say the devil has all the best tunes, but it seems that this one got away.

Bat out of hell is a real classic.
He'll be sadly missed.

One from my youth and effectively grew up with Bat and Deadringer.

I even had to buy a new copy of Bat Out Of Hell as I wore it out!

I remember recording the track Deadringer for Love on a cassette tape one after another and then taping my stereo to my bike handlebars and riding around with it playing (that was in the days before CDs and before I had a Walkman/Personal Stereo)

I didn't like his latest work as much but his earlier stuff with Jim Steinman - awesome.

I was never that impressed with him if I’m honest, but I’m in a minority within my family. They all loved his stuff and also think that I’m sadly deficient in one department or another! Nevertheless it’s always sad when someone of his stature dies. R.I.P.

Windows rattling from Meatloaf’s voice at the moment, iconic sound from my teenage years. RIP.

I always liked - Life is a Lemon and I want my money back

Does anyone remember his role in Fightclub?
I never saw fight club, well that is I wouldn't mention it if I did.
But who remembers his demise in Rocky horror?
I guess that's what's called "Being axed from a show"

I came a bit late to Meatloaf, first heard Bat out of Hell, while working in a holiday camp in Kent in 1980. The guy in the next chalet was belting it out on his boombox (remember them) until the early hours and everyone was complaining except me who just lied in bed and listened to his amazing voice. I bought the album soon after and used to lie on the floor in the attic of our house with the speakers by my ears, and was just lost in the music. RIP Meatloaf

Sad thing is I didn't rate his last 2 albums, Hell in a Handbasket and Braver than we are, the best song on HIAHB was a cover of a song that's nearly as old as he was, California Dreaming by the Mamas and Papas.

I can remember the first time I heard Bat Out Of Hell, the single, then the whole album. A friend of mine had it and he played it on a Bush music centre, I know that track word for word, even now. It's just that song takes me back, I can see the album cover now and that music centre too, with it's VU meters and sliding tuner.

Music is such a powerful medium, in so many ways and it has lost one of the greats today, a guy with a huge, powerful voice to go with his very similar personality.

A sad day indeed.

And the dad in Tenacious D’s pick of destiny

I was never into his music, but I can remember kinda liking 'Dead ringer for love' [with Cher] at the time, I was about 6 or 7 and it was always on MTUSA [a 4hr music show that preceded MTV]

He seemed a likable guy, seen him interviewed a few times and always had fun stories.

that sequence of three top c's (on the word Hell) in a row at the end of bat out of hell that he hits still makes me shiver...

I liked the music, but only learned today that "Meat Loaf" was a person's name. I thought that was the group. Some sort of stage name I presume.

Covid 19 I read.

In an interview on the Late, Late show [RTE, Irish tv] many years back he claimed he got the name from some of his stunts in his younger days - one of which involved him donning a motorbike helmet and letting cars/bikes run over his head ... probably BS but he was a great story teller
