RIP Joe

The first live gig I ever went to, was Joe Cocker at The Rainbow in 1971!

I didn't actually see his whole set! I was 13 and had arranged for my old man to give us a lift home, a sensible three hours after the tickets told us the doors opened! I'd never been to a gig so I didn't know how bands never come onstage when they say they're going to!

Anyway, my old man was very decently waiting outside at 10.30. Of course there were no mobile phones in those days to tell him, so after Joe came on stage at 11, we kept dad waiting as long as we dared and left after the first half hour of the set!

Oh.... Very sad. He was a really great singer. Am privileged to have seen him perform live.

RIP

a man who made you feel what he was singing

" you can leave your hat on"......loved his voice, music and his songs are full of happy memories for me, so long Joe, get p***ed in heaven.

Danced to one of his on my wedding night, a long time ago.

Very sad but he made 70 and the big C got him.

Have a few of his CDs off the shelf and ready for the wee small hours.

i thought scrivens had karked it when i saw the title ...

yeah because joe cockers freinds and family are reading this.... if you don't like what i write how about reporting it instead of making pathetic passive agressive snipes (or likes)

he was lucky to get through the 70's, drugs everywhere, alcohol and drug dependence. Rather like Joe Cocker...

:D

Someones uploaded a RIP Joe playlist to napster today. So many songs that I didn't know were him but knew.

....And also the fecking Inland Revenue (as they were called then). The story goes that the wretched tax thieves would have bankrupt him when he was at a very low point in his life but his American friend Leon Russell put together a band and arranged the 'Mad Dogs And Englishmen' tour which rescued the financial situation. Hence his choice of The Beatles song 'With A Little Help From My Friends' as Joe really did get by with a little help from some very true friends.

^ So much more heart and soul in this than The Beatles ever gave it, in my opinion. Leon is wearing the top hat - Very much his trademark. This is my era of first arriving in London and very happy stoned days and nights.
