Ring-Flash

Broke out the Orbis on saturday to grab a shot for this thread. Everything else I've got it's used as fill, not on it's own.

Hi thanks for posting this up.

Looking at the results and settings it seems fine by me but I'm no expert, what are your thoughts and would you use this on its own?

cheers

Would I use it on it's own?

Yes. I'm going to just keep it in the case with the speedlights in future and make more use of it. I have the bracket too which is OK, but not necessary.

With the Orbis, as long as I don't want to overpower the sun it should do fine. I've been toying with the idea of taking it out on the street and doing some impromptu portraits as a bit of a side project, but not actually got off my ass yet...

Rob, bite the bullet and buy a Lencarta Ringflash (It will give you a lot more options and is really what you are looking for).

hey thanks. I'm tempted to get one but also see the DIY thread giving me ideas too.

If you do get any more examples please add them to this thread :)

Yes it is, but the amount of use it will get will in the end dictate what I end up with.

The O Flash ones aren't - I've got one :shake:
Hehe. I got suckered into buying one of the O Flash units off ebay too and you're right - it's pants!

The Ray Flash doesn't seem a lot better but the Orbis looks pretty good. I got to play with one at the recent Focus 2010 show and was pleasantly impressed by the results. Just a shame it's £180 - if it were £50-60, I would buy one in a flash (pun intended).
