Further to this thread...

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=140651

Ive checked my website stats tonight, and have had a huge number of hits from a certain forum. I was shocked to see loads of people slating the calendar and my images, which has obviously rattled me somewhat.

Would anyone mind taking a look on my website for the images, and let me know what you think to them... they are here... http://www.deegregory.com/?page_id=747

Please bear in mind, this is for charity, the images were supposed to be fun, and different, I was just shocked at some people ignorance for what this calendar stands for :(:(

I thought they were great ! Very funny — you were very lucky with the models ! All very up for a laugh.
Photography - very competent and will all make a nice calendar

Beggers the question, which forum and what comments ?

I would have thought people wouldn't be buying it for the content, I mean it's simply a way of making a donation isn't it.
Not to devalue your work but if I was asked to, or felt like making a donation to a worthy charity in this way, the last thing I'd care about is the content of a calender, in fact I'd be suspicious if it was 12 pages straight out of Vogue.
I dunno what their problem is..if in fact they have a problem

Ha Ha !

Very good, I have been following this as I have a similar request for a calander.

They all seem 'game for a laugh' and there is nowt wrong with the photography so should be a winner!

Tell us who Dee we'll get'em for you :D
Nice set of fun images  the butchers particularly
with their sausages on display :D

Thanks all :)

Want to hear something ironic?

The calendar is for Rainbows CHILDRENS hospice... the stats show it is a parenting website :shake:

I like both the concept and the photos. Further to that you've made them for a great cause and should be congratulated for it.
Remember that the Internet offers people relative anonymity, and human nature being what it is some will take advantage of it. That'll be the case here, where negative comments are being put forward by those who (probably) never would dare do so face to face in real-life.
And as an aside, never let anyone get you down.

Thanks BillyM :)

They think the images are tacky, gross, disgusting etc...

If I dont hear anything back from the OP by tomorrow, Ill be posting a new thread in there myself...

Thanks all :)

Ironic indeed

 yeah I like that one,and the country lady with her latest kill :naughty: :D

Why am I not surprised Yvonne  :D
Actually I quite liked your second choice also

:( I am starting to get a bit worried now
<goes off to look at the boobs and bums forum, reality check, time :D>

Ah You have offended their sense decency :D

there really are some prudish people about :bang:
even worse is that seem to have had a sense of humour by-pass
does that happen when you have kids ?
Not in my "time" it didn't

I've been and had a good look Dee and all I can say is that there are some sad people out there with little joy to fill their lives with.

I suppose they would have turned their noses up at the original calendar girls too. When I lived in Devon the Young Farmers did a calendar and it sold out of everywhere that stocked it! lol hmmmmmmm :)

There is nothing wrong with the images, nothing wrong with the concept and nothing wrong with you.

About time some of them got a life. IHMO.

Cheers AliB, I am still a bit stunned really :(

As others have said, some people need to find some humour in their lives and get out more.
The images are fine, good fun, obviously tongue in cheek with the racier ones and the cause deserves all the support it can get.

They are great shots of people having lots of fun.

Whats not to understand Luke? Its for a childrens hospice, this has come from a parenting website, and they know full well its for a charity calendar :(

Love the fun concept and the photos are of a high quality it's for a good cause, what's not to like?

Well, I think it's a great calendar. Well done.

When you say parenting website, do you mean specifically parents who are connected with Rainbows?

Lisa

I suppose I am a bit old fashioned here. I would have taken a different approach if asked to make a callendar for a Children hospice. Nothing against a good laugh but the central theme of this calendar and vulnerable children just do not stick together in my world.

Just to play devils advocate a bit, whilst there's nothing wrong with the images themselves are they really relevant to a children's hospice?

They are totally cheesy, some are a bit risque, maybe not quite in keeping with the seriousness of the hospice and the situation of the children? I don't know, just a thought

For me they are a great set of fun imaginative photos, especially the butchers and the abacus ones.

You could only find them tacky, disgusting etc. if you were very small minded and had no sense of humour or imagination.

As many others have said ignore them.

Just the fact the calendar is for a childrens charity, and it has been slated by parents, you would think they would be more understanding.

But you have to remember, people dont want a calendar with pictures of cute, and/or vunerable kids

These are local businesses in a small town, and everyone will know someone in it, people want a fun, quirky calendar, so they can say "I know someone who did the Rainbows Calendar!" :D Its being talked about all round the town at the moment :D

Dee, I have just looked at the set for the calander and they all made me laugh, I would not lower yourself to their level, be proud of what you have done, I know I would be, and don't get onto a mud slinging match with them.

I don’t see how anyone can be offended at the pics, they are tasteful, inoffensive, and certainly fun. It’s for a very good cause that needs support, so ignore the critics who are sad, insecure, and wouldn’t do it themselves.

I posed nude for a Lions calendar shoot in 2000, it sold 15000 copies and raised thousands for charity. It was fun to do and gave us many laughs along the way, and like yours it was done tastefully, so even though there were nude men on every page, none were offensive. The end result was that people less fortunate than most of us benefited, and that’s what it’s all about.

Keep up the good work.

Must agree with this betty while we / I find these ok images . You have to realise with the way the world is today . Y ou say this is for a CHILDRENS club then people see photos of semi naked adults" albeit in a fun way imho" But with the way the world is are you that supprised

md;)

Cheers Dave, I am bloody proud of what Ive done, and this has really given me a boost :)

I agree with you here, but, while this calendar will make many laugh, especially if they recognize the models, there will be many who won`t understand why you have chosen to play around sexuality in this particular calendar. There are other things that make people laugh and could be called more appropriate in the circumstances.

But they are hardly pornographic? I honestly cant see the problem with them, have we REALLY made that big a mistake? :(
