First of all, I would like to say, I really appreciate all the help I’ve already been offered regarding my new website. People here really are willing to help you for nothing in return, unfortunately I feel very uncomfortable asking for help when people expect nothing back!

So what I want to ask is this. I am after a very simple website, very clean lines, simple front page, and a slick gallery, none of this Flash nonsense, for which I am willing to pay, or you can have some beer vouchers, your call ;)

I've made a VERY rough sketch in MS Paint for what I am after, obviously tided up, and with new fonts etc, but I am not going to get what I want from a free template it would seem. I have however found a template I like if anyone wants to work from that. I would also need a very simple admin page, to add new images as and when needed, a tutorial would also help here :)

Mods please delete if this is not allowed, otherwise, anyone interested, please PM me with your email address and I will email the MS Paint sketch over :D

Thanks very much

Hello,

I am not offering to do the website design or anything, merely a question when you refer to templates. Have you looked at some of the photo gallery specific templates you can get? There are a lot of people who have slick looking websites now and all they have done is used a downloadable framework with which to design.

Just trying to establish that when you refer to templates, you don't mean the horrible geocities or other old school layouts that seem to still linger.

i maybe able to put you in contact with the lad who did mine if your interested? link is in my sig

I cant afford much at the moment whitey, how much would he be after?

She is a web designer by trade, though the site above is he own stuff rather then the day job. She did my site and has also done sites for a few other photographers.

I always point people at http://wordpress.org / http://wordpress.com as a starter. Its a free open source content management systems (don't worry about the way they call it blog software - its much more than that.

The software itself is available at the .org whereas the .com is free hosting (you'll need to host the images elsewhere though and link)

There are thousands of free (beer & speech) templates.

The point is that it is a no cost option that lets you develop your ideas before you look at paying someone (or indeed spending lots of your own time) getting something more specific.

Have a look and see what you think. And it looks as if that freecss one is also a wordpress theme.

WordPress and other CMS applications are ok as long as you make sure that you keep it up to date, and the any additional Plugins/Mods that you add to it are well written and are also up to date otherwise it wont be long until your site get hacked :(
Unfortunately working for a web host I get to see it on a regular basis.

Betty, If it's just for a personal site I've got all the admin/upload code I've written in php which you're welcome to have. All depends on your hosting but it also all hooks into a mySQL DB if you need it to?

I can also rewrite it all in ASP in no time if you're hosted on a windows server?

www.hotscripts.com - Look for a photogallery on the following site.

on my site I did some PHP trickery (i am rubbish at PHP so it was an achievement) but I have to manually create/edit each page with the thumbnails and javascript pop-up.
