Seriously considering one.

Our garden is quite large and all grass. I've never measured it but it's roughly at a guess 50m by 25m. The top half is sloped and is of a wilder, tougher grass than the flat part, which is nearer the house.

I currently use a petrol mower and petrol strimmer. Both have given good service and should have a few years in them yet. Me though, I'm not as supple as I used to be, 54 years old now and looking to make some things easier. This year, our garden was torture at times to mow, I would end up drenched in sweat when finished, I mean soaked. I'm still fit enough to do it but its's not pleasant at the height of summer, even in the cooler evenings

So I'm considering a ride on but not sure where to start. There are no tight corners in our garden, it's largely rectangle in shape with mainly straight edges. I prefer the look of the tractor type ride ons but I think a tractor type would be overkill, so I'd be looking more at the buggy type ones. Budget is about £1500 max, preferably less. I'm selling some Fuji gear to fund it.

Has anoyne here experience of or own a ride on?

ta muchly.

Only 30 years ago as a kid cutting grass - 3 acres or so though so a bit bigger.

You will get it done with no effort in a little time compared to now. its quite relaxing doing it!

The size seems small, but I guess you will end up walking about 4k doing it! Do you collect grass (as if you do I bet you must stop all the time!

The finish is not as good, unless you invest in a roller you won't get the lines.

I bought one when when we moved in here. Garden isn't massive, but big enough to not want to have to have to hand mow it.
I have rebadged Husqvarna LR12 that I bought used for £350. Does the job for us. For your budget you'll get something very nice.

Cheers. :)

Yup, I collect the grass but that can be a bit hit and miss, especially if the grass is wet or as a high moisture content, it can stick to the inside of the cutting deck of my current mower. I fitted a brand new blade for this year though and that helped the collection probelms I was experiencing with the old blade. I'm not sure why but it just collects better, most of the time. I probably empty the bag 10 times or so per cut. Sometimes, I mulch the top, wilder bit.

I'm not too fussed on finish, our garden is functional rather than landscaped (having a 9 year old daughter and a big dog too). Neat would suffice. (y)

I'd never considered how far I'd walk during a cut, you're probably about right at 4k. Time is a factor too, it can take 3 hours to do all our grass, we have a side and front lawn too but they are much smaller than the back. The flat bit right at the house isn't too bad, it's the top, slopey bits that I don't enjoy.

That's about where I am too, I didn't used to mind doing it but now it's a bit of a bug bear. I'd never considered second hand, food for thought. (y)
