Ricoh GR III Owners Thread

I didn't realise just how good this camera is. I always disregarded it as being a bit compromised and cheap feeling. I eventually caved in and got a GR3X HDF.

It's superb. What a powerful little piece of kit in a tiny package. Very impressed so far.
 
A further update on my GR3X HDF. Really enjoying it. The big plus for me is how portable it is while maintaining such high quality imaging. Some of the very photographer-friendly capabilities like P-mode with wide aperture prioritisation are just great.
 
Anyone for Multi Exposures?

I've just started to get into it, and the Ricoh GR in rather good at it.

Here's three I did today of the same cluster of buildings, each a composite of 5 exposures, and each done using a different composite mode. Don't ask me which one's which. Work in progress.

I’ve written up my thoughts on my GRIIIX HDF after some comprehensive use. Is it good enough to satisfy the needs of a discerning photographer? Does it provide plenty of control and creativity despite its tiny size? Loads of pictures included.

Noticed this in the official GRiv release announcement:

The production and shipment of the RICOH GR III, currently on the market, are scheduled to be discontinued this July, due to difficulty in procuring of parts and components. However, the production and marketing of the RICOH GR IIIx will be continued for the time being.

Me too but being realistic, without the sort of upgrades that everyone seemed to be hoping for, (weather-sealing, MP increase etc), they surely couldn't be expecting great sales at a higher price - its $1499 in the US.
 
I was quite excited when it was first announced, but it's more of an iteration than a new camera. If it was my first Ricoh GR, then sure, because it will be better than the GRIII, but as an upgrade, no thanks.

The main issues I have with my GRIII are the reflectivity of the fixed LCD screen, which can make it difficult / impossible to see in certain light / angles, and the battery life (although I carry several batteries, so not a major problem). I'd have loved to see weather sealing, a tilting LCD, and a pop-up viewfinder in a new GR (although I appreciate that those would all likely affect one of it's main features, namely the extremely compact design).
 
I'll be in Japan at the end of next month/early Oct so hopefully I can find a IV there. Would be a great upgrade from my original GR (still going strong btw), and I'd finally be able to use the cases I have for my GRD3 (also still going strong) which I bought on the classifieds here about 13 years ago.
 
I still ponder... I joined a FB forum and read so many tales of things coming off and failing that I still haven't bought one. I would get the wider one so still the GR3x.. I know people jump on FB and moan and that moaners are more likely to do that. The lack of weather resistance isn't great either. If I take a camera out for the day on its own or away as a back up, I need it to be reliable - well who doesn't. Hmm....

I haven't really given it a proper outing. I was in London for a night shoot (with my Nikon FF) and I went an hour early to try this out (along with iphone).
I'm planning to use it as an adjunct to my Fuji with 27mm for street when I need wider.
So far I like it. The only thing I don't like is the micro sd card whichis very fiddly to insert and remove, especially with my arthritic fingers.
