Ricoh GR III Owners Thread

First little problem with the GR III yesterday.
After taking a photo and starting to walk off, a young lady called out and pointed to a metal ring on the floor behind me ... a GN-1 lens ring!
It had fallen off of the lens surround and dropped onto the floor ... a brief Google search shows this to be a known problem and a couple of 'fixes' involving a bit of tape or a wire tie inside the grove that the ring fits into. I think in my case the use of the lens cap...

lenscap.jpg

has probably caused the problem, it fits snuggly onto the lens barrel so I am guessing that if the lens cap turns counter-clockwise, so does the GN-1.
@Merlin5 you might want to watch out for this as you have the same lens cap I believe.

I don't use a lens cap. I don't put camera in pocket either. I have a little bag, takes phone too. £20 in JD Sports.

I like having mine in my pocket and not having to worry about a bag. Will need to think about best options.

Thanks for the warning, gramps. Seems fine so far. I daren't fiddle with anything though because I broke the whole lens mounting on the first GR III I had by trying to twist off a protective glass filter. To be fair though, that filter had been glued on!

I did notice a few days ago that there was an eBay sale of filters for the GR which came with 'sticky tape' to fix them ... maybe yours was such an unfortunate candidate! :)

My DSTE batteries and my Hosan batteries came with single and twin battery chargers, I thought maybe your DSTE batteries would too.
Hi Lee & everyone

So I'm finally going to get, I think, two spare batteries making three in total. That should be plenty. Plus a twin charger (?)

I'm not familiar with these names: DSTE, Hosan and no doubt there are others.

Which, apart from Ricoh's own, are the best/safest?

I have used DSTE for various cameras without any issue at all - I got two extras for my GRIII

Amazon Batteries

Amazon Double Charger

Thanks gramps,

so the amazon double charger is a triple charger (which is better than a single, presumably) ... you can just stick a battery at any level of discharge in any slot and you will know when it's done??

Yes 1, 2 or 3 batteries and the red LED's flash whilst charging and are steady when charged.

Arm in sling, first day allowed out, Westfield London, table with some sun coming through ...

About 6 weeks ago I slipped on some ice, fell breaking my arm in two places. I've been lying low since.

Anyway, I'm pleased with these GR3X jpegs, and hope to get into some proper street soon.
Ouch!
I slipped on ice a couple of mornings ago, one leg going one way and the other another way ... fortunately I was right beside some railings so was able to prevent a fall.

You've gotta be careful old boy!

I always keep my little GR 3 in my desk draw, so thought I'd just have a go with it on my desk. Black bit of cloth on the desk then had a play, the telescope eye piece was so hard to focus on the small shell but quite happy with it.

Just took the GR III out to Bath today, a reminder of how versatile this little camera is ... discreet, great sharp image quality and good dynamic range.

One problem that I have is that the camera seems to be applying -0.3EV to every shot!
I've checked tyhe settings and can't find anything in the menu that shows me having selected an exposure compensation ... any ideas what could be causing it?

That's a lovely shot, Gramps. No idea on the answer to your question, as I've had my GRiii about 24 hours and have only just started getting it set up :-) Took it out today and must say I'm amazed by the quality of the output. I've become accustomed to quite a lot of noise on my shots recently, but this this is a revelation.

Thanks Derek, glad you've joined the club, it is a lovely little camera ... look forward to seeing your shots. (y)

You spotted a couple that really liven up the surrounding.
