On the local radio last night, but I see the website is saying:
It is anticipated that the show will be held on Sunday but it will be only for holders of tickets valid for Sunday. A decision in respect of this will be announced by 4pm on Saturday.
I popped over there today. The parking looked like Silverstone of old in the bad days. Ploughed, very muddy fields. Lots of people wandering around Fairford village looking lost, probably from the packed campsites.
Absolutely gutted, booked Friday off work, drove down from Leeds with the missus, mother-in-law and uncle. Woke up to glorious weather first thing on Saturday only to hear it was then cancelled, I could have been sick Ended up at Blenheim castle instead (not exactly what I was hoping for).
You would think they would have better anticipated the weather and put matting down on the fields :/
I went on Saturday and Sunday, only as a casual observer (I did'nt pay) and I know the area really well, I have to say I was quite surprised at the decision to cancel, as the fields I saw which are usually used to for parking and camping were not to bad, I have seen far worse, no doubt the decision was taken with this in mind. I saw quite a few leave yesterday, it is such a shame as it's a real spectacle of an event and it brings in millions for the local economy, they will have made some of course but nowhere near what was expected.
It's pity that they didnt use park and ride type facilities, as you have the airfields at South Cerney and Kemble as well as other large concrete / tarmac areas in the vicinity, maybe it's worth considering for the future
